I am writing in hot pursuit, so you can ask around. I will answer that I know.
The hotel was chosen spontaneously on the recommendation of a travel agency. But everything turned out well.
The flight turned out to be a low-cost flight, not a charter, which spoiled the rest a little, but the guys at the hotel were great, they checked in at 10 am (instead of 2 pm as indicated in the vouchers) + fed breakfast (but don’t count on an additional ball breakfast if you got it in settlement day). Is it logical? ; -)
As already mentioned here, the hotel has a wonderful territory. The rooms are no longer fresh, but up to standard. We were in the standard, very well, everything works. Even the standard one is quite spacious.
There are enough beds for everyone. Plenty of places to sit in the shade. The sea is very close, BUT:
1 - for holidays with children under 10-12 years old, it is not suitable. Steep entry, strong wave.

2 - LifeGuard often forbids swimming, because just in this place there are often strong currents and can simply be sucked into a funnel.
So if swimming in the sea is not critical for you, then there is a rather spacious and warm pool.
But when you can swim, the wave here is excellent (jump in it).
For nutrition. We only took breakfast and I think we made the right decision (unfortunately I don’t know what they give for lunch and dinner). But the breakfasts are rather weak for my taste. Yes, there are delicious fruits, there is a standard - cereal, cold cuts, eggs, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausages. But from the main dishes, everything is spicy and I could not eat. But there are gorgeous natural juices, wonderful jams. In general, you will not leave hungry, but there is not much variety, especially if you are not a fan of spicy dishes.
Tried different cafes near the hotel (not by the sea). At the main entrance it’s not expensive, it’s delicious, but somehow it’s quite simple and they didn’t have the Internet at all (even though there is wifi).
A little further towards the railway (and the main road), the girls in the cafe already have tables with tablecloths. Also not bad, but a weak menu. The Internet is already working, but weakly.
Then we found the cafe OASIS right after the move. There are 10-15% more expensive. But somehow everything is cleaner, faster, a chic menu, it seemed tastier and excellent Internet (at least you can contact your relatives normally). We often went there.
But if you are too lazy to go somewhere, then in the hotel itself there is a wonderful restaurant by the pool (there are several at once, you can ask for 2-3 menus at once). Some things are even cheaper than in the street, and the serving of dishes and the atmosphere are much better. For example, "curry" dishes are served with a bunch of appetizers, a huge "basin" of rice and one serving is enough for two to satiety. Please note that tips are already included in the bill. And as I understand it, tips are not accepted at all, but sometimes they are included immediately in the bill (we dined somehow on the beach in another city).

Not far from the hotel there is a supermarket (ARPICO). On a tuk-tuk for 300 rupees (if you're lucky - then for 200) they take you there and back. We bought water and a snack there for the evening, if we didn’t want to have a tight dinner (sweet yogurts, fruits, various biscuits). There is a refrigerator in the room, they kept what should be in the cold. When they made such purchases, they dined in their room on the street at a table.
There is water in the room in a kettle and in a thermos. But somehow we did not dare to try it. So I can't say anything about her.
Coconuts on the beach for 100 rupees, in other hotels and on the way from the hotel - 50. In the hotel itself, at the bar, in my opinion, it is even more expensive, I forgot how much.
On excursions. As I understand it, the guide has normal prices. Beach "guides" break different prices (may differ a couple of times). So communicate, bargain, think with your head. If you're too lazy - order from your guide.
We ordered from one of the touts personal tours for four. He took us with a driver in a minibus wherever they asked. One day cost 45 greens for everyone (pick up friends from another town, wait until we have lunch, take them to a turtle farm, then to Bentota to a beautiful beach, and then take everyone to hotels). I can’t say whether we paid dearly or not, but for the same route another person asked for 50 per tourist.
In general, I really liked the country. Much cleaner than India. But we didn’t have time to see much, we still have to go back. Local barkers are not at all tense, they do not climb. Beautiful ocean. Pay attention to which beach (entrance to the water) you need. For example, in Bentota there is a beautiful beach for families with children. And in this hotel, the sand is larger, not so soft, the entrance is steep, I would not rest here with children.
Almost all locals know English, many who work with tourists and Russian. We went by tuk-tuk to the city of Kalutara itself. Of course, the village is a village, but there are interesting shops. For example, Rich-Look - very good prices for clothes and cosmetics.
I advise everyone to visit Sri Lanka. A very interesting country. And in January, getting warm like that is a fairy tale. There is something to see + the ocean is incomparable.
