We chose the city to which to go thoroughly. The choice fell on Hikkaduwa, because. there is a coral reef where the waves of the ocean break, so they are not so big. But still, we did not see calm even once in 10 days. Of the hotels in Hikkaduwa, the choice is not great: either Hikkaduwa Beach 3 *, or Hikkaduwa Trans (something like that, I don’t remember the exact name) 5 *. We chose the first hotel, because. it cost twice as much. Meals took only breakfast (by the way, VERY tight). They did not regret it, because we were not tied to the hotel for the whole day, we could go on excursions. There are no problems with food in Sri Lanka. She's pretty inexpensive. By the way, we highly recommend changing money, because. it is more profitable to pay in rupees. You can change at the airport, but in the city in banks, the exchange rate is also normal. At the airport, we immediately recommend buying a mobile communication card so that there is Internet. We did so, so we did not use the hotel's Wi-Fi.
About the hotel. He's not new. Furniture, bed "tired". But these disadvantages are covered by very friendly staff (in this country people are generally super kind). The employees are very helpful and any issues are resolved promptly. And the most important advantage of the hotel is its location on the first line. The view from our room was amazing. True, on the other side of the hotel there is a motor road, along which buses drive and honk at night. But this is a disadvantage of the entire coast, because. along the sea there is a road.
The beach at the hotel, like others, however, does not have its own. All beaches are urban. So stock up on towels, bedspreads and enjoy the ocean under the shade of palm trees. Do not be too lazy to go to the Hikkaduwa trans 5 * hotel (this is not far), on the beach of which you can swim with turtles for free. We went several times and enjoyed it very much.
We do not like passive recreation, so we traveled a lot around the country. First we toured the outskirts. Not only does he take the fare clearly according to the tariff, based on the mileage, he will also give you a tour. We wanted to go to a turtle farm, but Kemal took us to the Blue Lagoon, to the tsunami museum on the way, and showed us many interesting things (flying dogs, "live" mimosa, etc. ) . . We also went south to the city of Galle in international surf school. Then for 2 days on our own (by train and bus) we went to Kandy, saw tea plantations, rode elephants, were on a beautiful observation deck in the mountains. In general, we saw quite a lot in 10 days, but I still want to return to this country. If you speak English, you will find it very easy here. You can not buy sightseeing tours, but literally for a penny (for example, a train from Hikkaduwa to Colombo costs only 1 dollar for 100 km) to travel around the country.
Output. This hotel is well worth the price we paid. If you are a more whimsical tourist, you will have to pay many times more for other hotels.
Good luck to everyone who is interested.
We were in Hikkaduwa for the first time. We rested in this hotel with a campaign of 7 people.
In general, the hotel is normal for a troika, but there are a number of unpleasant moments.
The first thing that especially drew attention - at 22-00 every evening at the hotel they lock the doors to the courtyard and access to the beach. You can't go to the ocean! Sit outdoors in the courtyard of the hotel and by the pool too!
Only the main entrance to the hotel remains - which goes directly to a noisy street with heavy traffic. This situation is reminiscent of some Soviet-era children's camp.
The second is the situation with Wi-Fi. Passwords are some 20-digit numbers and letters that are changed every day, sometimes several times. You have to go to the lobby for a new password. Wifi is weak during the day. You can easily watch the video at night))
The hotel pool is tiny. Everything around him is in concrete. Uncomfortable. Sunbeds - old wooden monsters))
The rooms are very different depending on the category. We had Deluxe and Standard. Big difference! ! The deluxe has a frontal ocean view. Huge windows to the ceiling. Normal repair.
Standards - with a dead repair. The view from the window can be on a construction site or a courtyard. The room size is much smaller.
Food - normal for a hotel of this category.
Breakfasts are ordinary. Nothing special. Dinners were different. Several times it was simply perfectly cooked and varied - in the hotel there was apparently one of the important guests. But overall, I would rate it well.
The staff speaks almost all English. Cleaning - every day. The guys are trying. A tip and a smile allowed us to solve all the small issues and our requests. During the 14 days of stay at this hotel, no major problems arose.
Near the hotel there is a good beach and a coral reef. Walk along the beach to the turtles - 10 min. walking step.
It is convenient to buy fruits and seafood - next to the hotel in 3 minutes there are fish and fruit markets. Alkomarket - in front of the hotel. The advertised Red Rum is actually sweet nonsense)) But Lion beer is of really good quality.
Everything else was fine and without problems. But the second time in this hotel does not want to go.
In general, the hotel lives up to its 3 stars, only live better in deluxe rooms.
For many years of travel, I understood the main rule of a good holiday - take your good trusted friends with you and then there will be no time and desire to notice the shortcomings of the hotel.
Sri Lanka is an interesting exotic country. There are many attractions. Rich flora and fauna. We did not sit in the hotel and managed to look around and enjoy a huge number of sights. I really liked Sigiriya, Pollonaruwa, the Ella area with waterfalls. Gorgeous botanical garden! Ride on the railroad in the mountains. Were in Trincomal, it's also interesting there. We couldn't get to Pigeon Island because of a storm in Nulaveli ((
We also visited tea plantations, elephant farms, a spice garden, waterfalls, and a rain forest. The local guide organized all these excursions and trips for reasonable money. We have been riding around Sri Lanka for the second year already. Thanks Mano!
Have a good rest everyone))
But, everything is in order. Checked in quickly, and without a hint of a tip. True, breakfast was immediately denied, although time allowed us to provide it. All guests from the former CIS are accommodated only on the third floor. First they gave 302 number. To our request to move closer to the ocean, away from the road, they agreed two days later.
This is where all the positive ends.
Immediately make a reservation that we did not need any fancy conditions for recreation. We knew where we were going and what awaits us according to our budget. Nature as always surprised. The Indian Ocean was beautiful as always. I was pleased with the city of Galle, fortunately it was only a 30-minute drive from Hikkaduwa. The ancient streets of the fort can delight any aesthete. Nearby souvenir shops, cafes and restaurants, small bazaars with subtropical fruits and vegetables also pleased us, and did not let us get tired and upset during our vacation.
There was only one problem - this is our hotel. I have been on holiday abroad as a tourist for the fifth time. I'm used to the fact that the hotel on vacation is a second home. And here this "hotel is a misunderstanding" can hardly even be called a flophouse. First, I was surprised by the small number of guests. During our stay, about five rooms were occupied. These guests were not interested in the staff and management of the hotel at all, since their main focus was on serving local residents who came to rest from Friday to Sunday. Food was organized for them in the form of a buffet, sunbeds were arranged by the pool, and even beach towels appeared, which then disappeared in an unknown direction until the next weekend. After the holidays, weekdays began for vacationers....This was expressed in the complete absence of food for them. When we first entered the dining room after the weekend and saw the washing tables, at first we could not believe our eyes. The manager responsible for meals explained to us in broken English - "there are no residents in the hotel - therefore there is no buffet food for them. " And he handed us an oiled sheet in response, which he called the menu. The content of this piece of paper requires a separate story, and the main thing in it was: scrambled eggs, bananas and tea. And it was every day! We naturally tried to fight it - called Our host in Colombo. They promised to help us, and we listed what is needed for a simple breakfast. After this phone call, the staff vowed to provide it to us. But none of this was done. We had to plead every morning, which poisoned the holiday.
But not the only problems. Moreover, examples of greed and redneck in this hotel simply amaze me, as a person who knows firsthand about the resort business in our Ukraine. How do you turn off all the routers in the hotel, except for one at the reception.
And he could not cope with the work - and the Internet was no. Therefore, do not believe the advertisement that this hotel has internet.
Or a simple example with a leaky roof of our "wonderful" hotel. We had constant rain - and so every morning the cleaners collected rainwater in our hallway.
Yes, about the security of the hotel... I had to work at the computer at night, because. Only then did the internet work at the reception. So at 11 pm the administrator on duty was no longer at the counter. Such a situation developed every evening and night. . Therefore, access to the hotel was free..... But nothing seemed to have passed.
And finally, about the equipment of the room fund. Previous reviews have said something positive about it. I recalled this while sitting on the toilet in the bathroom, which was attached to the floor with one screw. It was impossible to attach it second - the toilet bowl was cracked at the base, so the second screw simply split it. In the end, I even wanted to give money to buy a new toilet.
In the end, we naturally received gifts from the hotel managers for our exactingness and adherence to principles. That day, three rooms left the hotel, but only we were asked to vacate the room at 12 noon or pay an extra 7 thousand rupees. And the "control shot" was from the manager allegedly responsible for the catering department. He tried to sell us a ten-dollar dry ration that the hotel owed us for not providing breakfast on the day of check-in. The content of this soldering requires a separate description. There were two pieces of bread, between them a piece of cheese the thickness of a notebook sheet, and in addition to this feast, a local banana of a microscopic appearance.
I did not approach this review for a long time, because I could not understand how you can hate tourists so much and do this to them. I am also writing so that there will not be such reviews about this unique hotel in the future. And for the rest of my life I remembered the expression on the faces of one married couple from Brovary, who stopped by to us on the day of our departure. Having traveled half the world, they also bought into the good reviews about this "piece of paradise", and their first reaction was also similar to ours. Therefore, if you don’t want to spoil your vacation in the lovely town of Hikkaduwa, my review will help you in some way.
In previous reviews, everything is written objectively: about early check-in, about food, and about the beach and about the location of the hotel. I'll take this as a plus.
But there is, as for me, one minus, and very bold - the width of the bed in a standard room. It's not a double bed, it's a 130cm wide BED bed. Go to the hotel website and look at the width of the slab on the wall, the bed and the two bedside tables. The width of the slab is 2 m. They fit a bed and two bedside tables. I weigh 60 kg, my wife has a couple of kilograms more. Tightness. . .
No, it's not like that, CLOSE TOUCH............................................................
How can two people with a weight of 80 kg or more fit there? Riddle (hugs and sex do not take into account - there is not up to the bed).
Went to the reception and complained. No, they say it's all right. Everywhere so.
Fuck there! Everywhere... cheerful. As for the rest, it's your own money.
P. S. Oh yes, I forgot about the Chinese. There are really a lot of them. Noisier than Russians, but they don’t swim (they don’t know how to swim), so they aren’t on the beach, they go on excursions during the day.
The food in the restaurant is delicious))) two types of cuisine - European and local, in the morning they still fry a delicious omelet in front of you))
We first settled in, let's say, a bad room - purely according to the layout of the hotel, it overlooks the street through the bathroom window, and from the room there is a view of the pool - you can’t open the curtains much - everything is in full view))). I asked to be relocated to a better room, I didn’t give money))) but, I got the manager and a day later I already settled in a chic room with an ocean view and a spacious bathroom)))
The room is well cleaned, bedding, towels are clean, separate ones are given to the beach.
Almost no one swims near the hotel, there are reefs, you need to go a little sideways - it’s already better there - but it doesn’t matter))
A little advertisement - along the line there is a wonderful institution Tigri restaurant !! ! The owner and chef in one person - Nishan - will feed you delicious fresh fish dishes and will gladly keep you company if you come alone))
Check-in went well, went to a meeting and settled earlier, but! must be taken into account - they immediately give the worst numbers. Either ask right away and give money if you wish, or later, I moved 3 times until we were settled in a normal room.
I liked the fact that the hotel is very small and cozy, home-like.
The rooms were disappointing: very old, very, this was the only but real drawback. Everything is old and hasn't been refurbished. . .
The food is quite good for 3 stars, the rating is 5. Breakfast is a buffet, though almost the same, but it was enough for us, dinner and lunch are on the menu, but I immediately say that it is very expensive, outside the hotel in any restaurant it is cheaper by 40 percent.
Service - I was amazed - gorgeous! I have never seen such a kind and helpful staff anywhere (I have been in 10 countries), super! Like at home!
I advise the hotel for its location (we had the best beach of the entire coastline), but if the freshness of the renovation is important to you, I think you will be disappointed.
In general - I advise! Have a good holiday everyone!
The biggest plus of the hotel is its location, which I think is the best in Hikkaduwa. I left the hotel and went straight to the ocean! Neighboring hotels cannot boast of this - there are corals right at the gate, then the territory is huge and it takes a long time to walk, or boats are right in front of the hotel.
Meals - breakfast - everything is delicious, varied, fruits, juices - everything is fine! People, be PEOPLE, take a couple more sausages (you already paid for them anyway! ) And feed the cat that comes to the tables on the hotel veranda every morning for breakfast! : )
Cleanliness in the room - cleaned every day, we left 100 rupees and we twisted an elephant out of towels a couple of times. With bed and towels is not clear. It seems that the bed has not been changed even once in 2 weeks) There are only 2 large towels and they are also rarely changed. Hang out on the balcony to dry)) I have never seen this anywhere) In general, if the place in the suitcase allows you to take your towels)))
In general, I liked everything! The hotel justifies itself for its money, I don’t think that in more expensive hotels the service is better) If you are not whimsical and the main thing for you is the ocean and nature - feel free to take this hotel! The rooms are all on the sea, 10 minutes walk - supermarkets and restaurants. We ate at Red Lobster - everything was delicious and not expensive. Excursions were taken from their guide - everything is also excellent. Only to go far , tiring . We went to Galle ourselves by bus, from there to Unawatuna. In Galle, it is interesting to climb the fort and the tourist shops in the village. Unawatuna - this is the blue lagoon - the usual lagoon. nothing special) On an excursion to a tea plantation, we bought tea at a factory - it is much cheaper there than in Hikkaduwa itself. You can still buy all the souvenirs and tea on the way back at the airport - it is also cheaper there than in the village.
Have a good holiday everyone! Sri Lanka is a beautiful country!
I recommend this hotel to everyone. For little money - a lot of positive emotions!
