If the ALL INCLUSIVE option is not a prerequisite for your vacation, and the vacation budget is not unlimited, but you are ready to get out of the hotel and gain impressions of the country, this hotel may well be considered as an option for a holiday on the coast.
We chose it to stop for a week-long "respite" after an active tour of the North-Central and Highlands provinces of Sri Lanka.
There were several reasons for this:
- hotel right at the edge of the beach;
- the opportunity to swim / jump on the waves / dive / look at the underwater world through the transparent bottom of the boat without going far from the hotel;
- Possibility to eat outside the hotel (selection of places);
- the availability of other interesting places in the south of Sri Lanka: the ancient Galle Fort, water safari, turtle hatcheries, etc. ;
- trust in the AMAYA RESORTS brand.

In fact, the hotel turned out to be quite a decent "three rubles".

The territory is small, but inhabited (a hall blown by breezes, and immediately behind it is a rounded pool, and immediately behind the pool there is a strip of beach, so the sunbeds are either by the pool under almond trees, or already on the beach, under the canopy of tall coconut palms ? ). It is gratifying that all rooms with balconies or verandas (1st floor) face the ocean (incredibly beautiful and changeable); Meals without any frills (breakfasts - buffet - standard: a set of familiar dishes for the former British colony - scrambled eggs, sausages, toast, beans in tomato, muesli, some vegetables, juices (fresh - watermelon and coconut; packaged fruit - guava, mango); cheese, butter, freshly baked buns; tea, coffee (in bags) and a couple of Sri Lankan dishes - rice vermicelli, curry from lentils, fish, vegetables (fiery !!! ); dinners - once at a time it was not necessary, but some were quite worthy even 4 *).
The work of the maids left much to be desired - on arrival I had to be reminded of the missing towels, the quality of cleaning, chairs and a rack for drying clothes on the balcony...
True, after the "lapping" the situation improved. It's no secret that in Sri Lanka, hotels on the coast are inferior in quality of service to hotels of the same category in the interior of the island, where we stay on a multi-day sightseeing tour.
Pros of the hotel: democratic atmosphere, free Wi-Fi in the lobby, tea / coffee facilities in the room + free water daily (0.5 l / person); for all its compactness, there is an Ayurveda center, a travel agency where you can take excursions in the surroundings (bargaining is appropriate! ).
Annoying cons: although the hotel is quite pleasant in style, it needs cosmetic repairs (however, some painting and finishing work was carried out during our time) - stale covers on the sofas in the lobby, burnt napkins on the tables in the restaurant, dull corridors.
And yet, if you arrive "on a positive note" (and our group could not be bothered with this! ), then you settle down, get used to it, find a common language with the staff - and enjoy the sun, the ocean panorama, walks along the beach, magnificent sunsets, the rustle of palm leaves, original dishes for dinner ...and even put up with spicy-burning curries, without which the Sri Lankans cannot imagine daily menus.

PS Hikkaduwa is an excellent starting point for a trip to Galle Fort (local buses run along the Colombo-Galle highway, next to which the hotel is located, every 15-20 minutes, and the ticket costs ridiculous money - 60 rupees round trip, and go to the fort half an hour).

The resort itself is considered an "economy option" compared to the prestigious Bentota, but from December to March you can scuba dive or just snorkel here: this place was glorified by underwater coral gardens (sung in the 70s of the last century by British science fiction writer Arthur C. Clarke) , so every two hundred meters in Hikkaduwa diving centers. There are also many souvenir shops, shops, unpretentious cafes and bars, where tourists are always welcome. In the summer (our) time, the resort is empty (and this has its own charm! ), but with the beginning of the season on the west / south coast it comes to life and even seems to be a rather "party" place.
In addition to diving, he has another specialty - surfing (wind - and classic, on the board), because Hikkaduwa has a coastal reef and a steady "long" wave ...So the drive is guaranteed for those who conquered it.
PPS Hikkaduwa often hosts international surfing competitions (eg.
, Japanese), have experience in organizing a beach festival and other "boring" undertakings.
