Galle Fort, Sri Lanka
Galle Fort is one of the attractions that, in my opinion, is worth a visit in Sri Lanka. Moreover, getting there from many resort towns is not difficult. You can get there either by tuk-tuk or local buses. We got to Galle from Unawatuna. Unawatuna is located very close to Galle and any tuk-tuk can be reached in 10-15 minutes for a small fee. It takes a little longer to get from Hikkaduwa - 30 minutes.
Halle has many buildings of colonial architecture. The Dutch fort itself is perfectly preserved: defensive walls, a clock tower, a prison, administrative buildings, churches, storage facilities and much more. The fort also houses the National Museum of Maritime History.
Under the walls of the fort there are small but pretty beaches, so you can swim if you wish.
The lighthouse deserves special attention, it seems that you can climb it, admire the view of the whole city, but unfortunately we did not know about this possibility and limited ourselves to photographing the lighthouse itself.
Overall, we were very pleased with our visit to Galle. Therefore, I recommend everyone who is relaxing in nearby resorts to dilute their beach holiday with a trip to the fort.
