Good afternoon. We rested from December 07.2010 to December 15.2010. We were met at the airport by the guide of the Osthrove Ceylon Travels travel company Shintana and Madiyar Erubaev, a native of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Brought to the hotel, settled in a room on the third floor overlooking the ocean. The room is so-so - a modest 4, but we are not picky, because. he is there only for taking a shower and spending the night.
The ocean is warm, but very strong waves. We sunbathed near the pool on sun loungers, sometimes we went swimming in the ocean, which is a 2-minute walk away.
In the evenings, the animators arranged performances of English-speaking artists in the hotel. Rest is calm, young people are bored in this hotel. There are no places of entertainment nearby. There are discos and casinos only in Colombo, and it is 50 km to go there.
The main contingent of the hotel - the British, Germans, Americans. There are almost no Russians. For all the time of rest, only on the penultimate day a family from Surgut arrived.
We have been on a lot of excursions. The next day after arrival, we went with our guide - Shintana on an excursion to Kandy. We visited the Elephant Orphanage, Spice Garden, Jewelry Factory, Royal Botanical Garden, Buddha Temple, Tea Factory. We agreed to go without spending the night from early 5 am to 9 pm. We were charged 260 bucks for the tour. We did not like the elephant nursery, because before that we were in Thailand, it was more interesting there. We took the smallest excursion in the nursery, it was quite enough for us, there was nothing to do there longer. In the "Garden of Spice" it is interesting: we learned how pineapple, coffee, vanilla, etc. grow. exotic plants. At a jewelry factory (we don’t remember the name), we got stuck for a long time, watched a video, the production and extraction of precious stones, then chose stones for a long time and bargained. Traded for about an hour. As a result, they did not buy anything, they promised to return later.
Then we were in the huge Royal Botanic Gardens. Awesome tour, amazingly beautiful! There are trees in the garden, one of which was planted by Tsar Nicholas II of Russia in 1860, and the second tree was planted by the first cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin in December 1961.
Then we went to "Buddha Temple", a very interesting and beautiful temple. Impressed. After the Temple we went to the tea factory. We learned how to produce green and black tea. Bought 3 kg of Ceylon tea.
The next day we decided to try to take a tour of the beach boy - Blackie, who hangs out at the exit to the beach, black, small with an unshaven beard. The guy is not bad, you can trust, he is very friendly, values his business, speaks a little Russian.
We approached, chatted, asked questions and agreed to ride on the Bentota River in a boat. Agreed for 30 bucks for two for three hours. Let's go and get such pleasure from the tour, communication, we decided to travel only with him. We saw a lot of monitor lizards, eagles, an iguana, a tame eagle, a monkey, a small crocodile, and mangroves on the river.
The following excursions, as well as shopping, accompanied us Blackie.
Also, together with the employees of the tourist company Shyntan and Madiyar, we went on an excursion to the turtle farm. We saw an albino turtle, small newborn turtles.
Souvenirs are quite difficult to find, on excursions the prices are crazy, bargain hard.
In conclusion, I can say that do not be afraid of beach-boys, look at their relationship. Our Blyaki honestly earned money and never cheated on the price. Always honestly told what and how much it costs.
On the day of departure, Shintana and Madiyar were picked up from the hotel at 22-30, and the flight was at 04-20, we arrived at the airport at 1.30 minutes while customs clearance, passport control - it was already time to board the plane.
Sri Lanka is a wonderful island! We do not regret that we went to this particular country and we think that we will definitely return to see the remaining sights. SIGIRIA did not wait for us this time.
Separately, I would like to note the work of the travel company "Osthrove Ceylon Travels", which employs no less wonderful guys like Shintana and Madiyar. Thank them for everything!! !

We rested at the end of April. Everything is just very wonderful. The service is at the highest level, everything you want. The food is different every time, there are a lot of fruits. The staff is ready to wear you in their arms. The only surprise is that you have to sign for alcoholic drinks. And of course, without knowing the language, it’s hard.

We were met at the airport by the guide GRISHAN (the other type, I will describe below). We were brought to the hotel, settled in a room on the second floor with a side view of the ocean, the room was so-so for a modest 4, the shower room did not please us at all, but we are not picky about the rooms, because we only take a shower and sleep there. The furniture is more or less fresh, but it is clear that from such a climate the varnish on the furniture goes in spiders. Be sure to read the guest book at the reception, you will find a lot of useful information from tourists. The bed really seems damp, but they quickly realized that if you do not open the balcony and turn on the air conditioner, then this problem is almost completely solved. Things, of course, are very difficult to dry, the swimsuit practically does not dry.
The hotel is fully consistent with its star rating, 4 stars do not portend anything special either in the kitchen or in the service. We had only breakfast and we never regretted that we did not take all inclusive. Breakfasts were held at an incomprehensible time, then from 8 to 10, then from 8-30 to 10-30. Once we came at ten minutes to ten, and there was nothing on the tables, we had to swear. I swore personally in half English and Russian, in the end they brought us rolls, butter, cheese, tea and coffee. We usually ate dinner in cafes located nearby. We can advise you to go to Sasika (when you go to the beach, go to the right for about 5 minutes), the food is really tasty and inexpensive, the only thing is to check the bill, they can cheat. A portion of shrimp immediately comes with a side dish, a portion of spaghetti is quite large and can be taken for two. We also went to the Blue Lagoon a couple of times (Blue Lagune, a cafe on the river in the thickets) (when leaving the hotel, turn right for 2-3 minutes on the left side of the road), also large portions.
If you are not too lazy to ride, then take a tuk-tuk and ask to be taken to Bentota. Costs $2 round trip. You can also negotiate with a taxi, which is available on site for the same money. But knock-knock is a drive. I really liked the soup of sea creatures in the AIDA cafe in Bentota, they didn’t find anything else like it. We had a very tasty dinner at the Sea Grill cafe, the service is at a high level, the "ladies" go there in evening dresses, but we were in Russian in shorts and T-shirts. Insanely delicious dessert Pinneapple Suprise, highly recommend. (a photo). On average, our dinners came out at 30 bucks a couple. No one had any problems with digestion.
The ocean is warm, but the waves are very strong, a local guy told us that in August we need to go to the northeast of the island, there is a smooth surface on the ocean. The ocean is dirty, but it is not clear what this is connected with, either with the river flowing nearby, or the waves nail all the dirt to the shore. We never lay on the beach, because it is not equipped there.
We lay in the hotel on sunbeds, and went to swim in the ocean, it took 2 minutes to walk, but things were guarded.
The hotel is more for overnight stays between excursions, there is animation with which we sometimes did aqua aerobics. In the evenings, the animators arrange performances with folk dances and skits. Rest is calm, young people are bored in this hotel. There are no places of entertainment nearby. There are discos and casinos only in Colombo, and it is 50 km to go there.
On the beach, be sure to use cream, or better, sunbathe under the palm trees.
We have been on a lot of excursions. First we went with our guide Grishan, who turned out to be a breeder in the end. To begin with, we decided to go on an excursion "Elephant Orphanage-Spice Garden-Jewellery Factory-Royal Botanical Garden-Kandy-Buddha Temple-Tea Factory-Waterfalls". We agreed to go without spending the night from early morning until late at night.
They took 250 bucks from us for the tour, later it turned out that it was possible, safely, to go with the beach boy Ami on the same tour, only for 150. Grishan bred on everything, on morning tea, on water, on fruits, on buying tickets . It's cool in the elephant nursery, you can wash the elephant, then you will ride on it. Also be sure to feed him. We took the smallest excursion in the nursery, it was quite enough for us, there was nothing to do there longer. The "Garden of Spice" is generally complete bullshit and you don't need to go there. Spices are expensive, buy much cheaper in the store. At the jewelry factory "Amith Gems" (Kandi. Peradeniya road. 644) we got stuck for a long time, watched the video, production, then chose stones for a long time and bargained. Traded for about an hour. As a result, they took sapphires for good money. Upon arrival, they showed the familiar jewelers, everyone appreciated it 2-3 times more expensive.
I can say one thing, that if the price tag says 600, then you should give no more than 350, and preferably 250 - it will be a gift of fate. Bargain confidently and insist on your own, bargain personally, as soon as someone from your environment says "take it, good price" these monkeys will not move another rupee. Do not forget to take certificates for stones and wood products. Then we were in the huge Royal Botanic Gardens. Awesome tour, amazingly beautiful. The next stop was the city of Kandy, however, our "friend" Grishan showed him from the car, we did not even walk around the city. Then we headed to the "Temple of the Buddha", an insanely interesting and beautiful temple. Impressed. After the Temple, we went high into the mountains to a tea plantation. We were not on the plantation itself, we were only taken to the factory. The stench is terrible, almost threw up. It stinks of strong chifir.
Most of all, I was struck by how they all rake with shovels from the floor they walk on with bare feet, plus tourists who walk in shoes. After that, I did not want to buy Ceylon tea. After the tea factory, we went to the waterfalls, again mountain serpentine, almost to the top of the mountain. The waterfall turned out to be frail and with a very inconvenient approach, we were afraid to go along this "goat path". In general, the waterfall was not worth it to go there. I will say for myself that I was very swayed during this excursion, so if you have a bad vestibular apparatus, take pills or bracelets with you.
The impressions of this excursion were blocked by fatigue and deceit.
The next day we decided to try to take a tour of the beach boy Ami (always hanging out at the exit to the beach, black with long curly hair, mob. place. +94777047843). We approached, chatted, asked questions and agreed to ride on the Bentota River in a boat. Agreed for 30 bucks 4.
We went and enjoyed the tour, communication, lots of fresh fruit so much that we decided to travel only with him. On the river we saw many monitor lizards, eagles, a kiwi bird, a green lizard, a tame eagle, a monkey, a small crocodile, mangroves. Ami does not go shopping with you, but if you ask, she will come in and very often tell you what and how much it really should cost. Only Ami bought us water, because for tourists water is much more expensive. Moreover, he did not even take a penny from us for water. Also with Ami we went on a jeep safari to Yala National Park. On the way, Ami took us to the village and fed us with cottage cheese and buffalo milk. Very tasty cottage cheese with palm honey. We transferred from the minibus to a jeep and drove across the savannah. We saw many different animals, wild boars, elephants, buffaloes, marabou, crocodiles, jackals, kiwis, eagles, leopards. All with jokes and jokes. Very funny and friendly guy.
We drove home with impressions, a slight relaxation and a sense of accomplishment.
Excursions are all interesting, but it is very far to go, so it turns out to be expensive. Almost everything is for 2 days, but we did not want to pay for other hotels, so we went one day. With meals in roadside cafes, be vigilant, because on the train with Grishan for us, tea cost 5 bucks, and with Ami 2 basques for four. Ami brought water for free.
We also became so good friends with Ami that he persuaded us on the penultimate evening to go to the turtle farm. It's fun to see little turtles. True, it started to rain, and we asked him to take us just to a restaurant, and not to take us to the farm. He pretended not to understand us. But then he surprised us and brought us to his house, where his wife cooked dinner for us. We sat pleasantly, ate, talked with his wife, played with his son and we were taken home.
Souvenirs are quite difficult to find, on excursions the prices are crazy, bargain hard, put money in and take the goods. On our last evening on the island, we decided to go out for souvenirs. We were met by an uncle right at the hotel and offered a taxi service. We said to the gift shop, he took us to Bentota. The store is really big. Bargain at prices right away, otherwise they will throw off very little at the checkout. On average, the discount should be about 30 percent.
In conclusion, I can say that do not be afraid of beach-fights, look at their attitude. Our Ami honestly earned money and never cheated on the price. Always honestly told what and how much it costs. GRISHAN is a complete schmuck, if you come across him, immediately send him in three funny letters. And yet, you can go to the airport 3 hours before departure, it makes no sense to arrive there earlier. It takes 50-60 minutes maximum to get to the airport from the hotel at night, plus an hour is enough to go through all the formalities.
Grishan picked us up from the hotel at 22-00, and the flight was at 04-40, it was just kick-ass. We were ready to sleep on these benches at the airport.

On the beach, be sure to use cream, or better sunbathe under the palm trees. It’s cool in the elephant nursery, you can wash the elephant, then you will ride on it. Upon arrival, they showed the familiar jewelers, everyone was rated 2-3 times more expensive. After that, I did not want to buy Ceylon tea. . After the tea factory, we went to the waterfalls, again mountain serpentine, almost to the top of the mountain. The waterfall turned out to be frail and with a very inconvenient approach, we were afraid to go along this "goat path". In general, the waterfall was not worth it to go there. I can say for myself that I was very swayed on this excursion, so if you have a bad vestibular apparatus, take pills or bracelets with you. Let's go and enjoy the tour, communication, lots of fresh fruit that we decided to travel only with him. On the river we saw many monitor lizards, eagles, a kiwi bird, a green lizard, a tame eagle, a monkey, a small crocodile, mangroves. Ami does not go shopping with you, but if you ask, she will come in and very often tells you what and how much it really should cost. Sri Lanka is a wonderful island! We will definitely come back to see the rest of the sights. SIGIRIA did not wait for us this time.

Badly. The food is spicy and the same. The beach was dirty. The sun is very low, so go in a long T-shirt, and preferably in a sweater. I burned out terribly! Animators, or rather reanimators, do not work! Do not drag adapters and raptor. Everything is. On the beach, you better trust Papa. A man, about 40 years old, short, walks in linen (looks like a skirt).

They swam the same way, on a boat through the jungle. We saw a crocodile. Nature is breathtakingly beautiful. Burned hard, to the point of blisters! It hurts a lot. If it hadn’t burned out, I would have put it everywhere (like advertising). But....
Thanks.

Don’t focus on Turkey, you are in Sri Lanka. The spa villa is good, but this money is not worth it, I didn’t get relaxation. We went on excursions ourselves along our own routes and by public transport, it’s not scary, the people are kind and always ready to help. Go, you will like it !!! !

I just returned from this wonderful country and I want to share my impressions! Rest on the ocean is just a fairy tale. Lush vegetation, pure sand, exotic living creatures, while sunbathing on the beach, the sun is almost not felt, but after a couple of days you won’t notice how you burn out. Be prudent and at first be more in the shadows.

Lush vegetation, pure sand, exotic living creatures, while sunbathing on the beach, the sun is almost not felt, but after a couple of days you won’t notice how you burn out. Be prudent and at first be more in the shadows. In general, everything is in order.
We took a tour from Kyiv and we have already taken into account 3 days of excursions around Kandy and attractions. I say right away, on the ocean coast you can buy the same excursions cheaper and with the same service! At the airport, we were met by a guide "grandfather" about 50 years old, Russian-speaking, who took us to the Topaz Hotel, 3 * - nothing, you can stay for three days. Immediately the mood fell, when in the morning looking at the sky you can’t see the sun, it’s constantly cloudy and it’s raining. Do not hang your nose - on the coast the weather is completely different !! ! But everything you see on excursions makes you not pay attention to it.
Once again about the guide Damik, who tried all three days to drag us to his room with the pretext of drinking local rum and eating mangoes. Do not see his offers to go for a massage (Ayurveda) - it sucks. Firstly, go through some wilds at night, pay 30 bucks for the fact that some grubby boy will massage you on a dirty, scuffed couch with smelly oil, trying to touch all intimate places, while ruining my favorite underwear with the same oil , and after all, trying to wash me in an unsanitary tiny shower right in the room where there are couches, covered with Soviet-era oilcloth. One thing that impressed me was the sauna. It is certainly something. Like a coffin : ) - a barrel, in the middle of which there is a wooden grate, steam comes out of it, you lie down in it, and your head remains outside. For a long time, however, it cannot be sustained. In general, I went out and said that I had the impression that I was brought to some kind of brothel and raped. For which they smiled sweetly at me and said that I need to give a tip !! ! I laughed hysterically. So, do not waste your money and time, but rather go to the normal civilized Ayurveda centers on the coast, such as "Laluna" or at our hotel "Riverina". A very unusual Shiradara procedure. Euphoric states. . . Don't miss it! Complete relaxation and unforgettable new sensations are guaranteed!
Another point, the program says an excursion to the silk factory. DECEPTION! this is pure shopping and the same guide did not warn us about this. They bring you to a store where girls in identical saris surround you and start talking to buy junk, which are sold in our markets even cheaper.
There was also an ugly situation on the last day of our stay at the same Topaz hotel, we were billed for breakfast! Oops - what a surprise. Read carefully the program that travel agencies give and calculate how much breakfast and dinner are included. Were in the Royal Botanical Garden all with the same guide. He does not know the names of trees and flowers (except for orchids), and when I asked the question: what is it, he replied that he was not a botanist. The conclusion suggests itself: what kind of ben are YOU giving us an excursion to the botanical garden and where is a normal guide ?!
But we rode an elephant, we got there already when twilight began. And that made the experience even more intense. Especially when the local "driver" of the elephant forced me to do an acrobatic trick on an elephant called "butterfly" : ))).
Spice garden. It is very beautiful and interesting, but you should not buy spices there, also about tea - buy it cheaper in the supermarket too. On this negative is over and now about the pleasant : ).
We arrived at Riverina. Well, now complete relaxation. The hotel is very popular, judging by the population and the diversity of nations. There are very few Russians, and even more so Ukrainians, although I was pleasantly surprised to see 5 people from Belarus. There are a lot of Poles, Englishmen (not surprisingly, Sri Lanka was an English colony in the past), Germans (and where are there few of them? ), there are Italians and Frenchmen (we have not seen). We caught 3 local weddings, the ceremonies were held in our hotel and the photo shoot took place by the pool. Surprisingly! : ) At the end of our holiday, a whole diligation of Indians settled in, the Sri Lankans from Colombo also have a rest. This did not bother me at all (after reading the reviews here, it even somehow became unpleasant for me that they were called untidy and dirty - nothing like that !! ! and their children are just bubbly - very beautiful). The hotel area is small, but cozy and clean. More strained the old cellulite and mutilated bodies of Europeans. Lying by the pool, I got the impression that I was in some kind of sanatorium for paraplegics. There were copies from the movie "Hellraisers".
Food. Breakfasts are the same as everywhere else (believe me, I have already flown half a ball) - you want European, sliced u200bu200bcheese & kelbas, fruits (although these are not the fruits that you can buy on the layout in the city, but I generally keep quiet about watermelon - this is a parody of watermelon, and also they eat avocados with sugar, ha ha, and we eat salt or shrimp), breakfast cereals, fried eggs, boiled eggs, scrambled eggs, lots of rice, vermicelli, sausages, chicken wings, etc. Spicy everything stood apart and was written CURRY. The fries were different. That's what's strange - they drink Nescafe coffee. And then I found a jar of brewed local coffee - tasteless. As it turned out, before the tea plantations in Sri Lanka there were coffee plantations, but some virus infected the coffee trees and they were cut down. We had HB, so I can’t write about lunch. Dinner was themed every night. Mexican Cuisine, Indian Cuisine, Italian Cuisine etc. And the dinner was accompanied by musicians whose entourage corresponded to a certain country. Again, there were a lot of salads - do not be afraid to try !! ! It may look strange salad, but the taste is divine. Who still wants to do without experiments, that is, tomatoes, cucumbers, cabbage, onions - a classic option. Soups. It's more difficult with them. The mashed mamalyga that looks green is not for me, but tomato, vermicelli, potato ones are quite tasty. Water, tea and coffee for free, alcohol, cocktails - for a fee. The sweet table was broken. Mousses, cakes, ice cream, jelly, cakes - yum-yum - do not ignore! Especially some white jellyfish; ).
Rooms. For 3 stars, it's normal, but not always, when exchanging for clean towels, they give the same amount. And do not take adapters and raptors. This is all in the hotel and you will not have mosquitoes if you allow the attendants to change the pills in the raptors on time. And every evening we were decorated with flowers on the bed - well, it's very nice : ) We were immediately given a room on the first floor - it smelled of moisture, they changed it to the 3rd one - it smelled of something else, but they made a allowance for the fact that it's still the tropics : ))
Fun. Hardly ever. The hotel has a bar where you can get drunk and neigh with foreigners as they light. We went to the disco in the city. Disco Nitsche so, club music plays, in between live reggae music, in general, the local population are fans of Bob Marley. But I did not think that reggae in such quantities could get bored. Smoke marijuana. As for something heavier, I don't know.
We went to the jungle. It's unforgettable!! ! We also saw a crocodile, you won’t surprise us with a monitor lizard, because on the island where we swam, these monitor lizards walked almost over their heads. We saw a blue bird, a yellow bird, monkeys. Chipmunks are also in bulk both in the hotel and in nature in general.
The local population is very friendly, calm, many speak several languages. And Russian as well.
And also the thrill of the ocean, when you are lying on the board, they let you go along the wave and the wave throws you right on the shore! Bomb!! ! Board or windsurfing can be rented. In general, I really liked it, I want to go back. Ocean +28c, warm, beautiful and cheap. And we have 17s. Cool? : )

In general, I concluded that the choice of a hotel in Sri Lanka should be approached much more carefully.
And further. It is worth going on a sightseeing and beach tour. Upon arrival, travel to see the island for several days, and then relax somewhere on the coast in a hotel. This is due to very tiring transfers from the hotel to any point of the excursion program. And there is something to see! What are only tea plantations...
In general, there was some kind of double feeling about the country: not very lucky with the weather, frequent rains (during the non-rainy season) left a feeling of dampness and dankness, but the nature of the island delighted. A cunning guide, intrusive beach-boys and at the same time a hotel doctor (who was forced by circumstances to turn to) is a competent and friendly person.

Hotel, service, food - terrible. I wouldn't even give this hotel 3 stars. The bed is constantly dirty (they just turn the sheets over and turn out the pillowcases - this has been verified), it’s scary to even enter the shower in slippers, the rooms are not cleaned, the furniture of the last century: broken and dirty.

The country is very poor, but beautiful. Our guide was just super, and was able to show his country from the good side. Nature is very beautiful. Were in Kandy the city is very beautiful, and the Mahaweli Reach hotel - I liked it, the food is delicious, the service is excellent, there is no ocean - but a very good pool. The rest was saved by our guide and a trip to Kandy, but I will never go to RIVERINA again.

Rumsevis - sticky bastards. The beach is a dump (the rivers flow nearby). Rain every day (November-December). Snakes, ticks, mosquitoes, cockroaches 5 cm each in the bathroom - the wife was happy. Yes, what is there to list. I am surprised at the enthusiastic half-wits who give this sump a higher than a three. There are positive moments, but they only fade against the general background cleanly. I can also add a dozen or two negative ones, perhaps. I beg you, colleagues, take care of your nerves. There are many great places: Thai, Maldives, Vietnam. Yes, in Hurghada fucking much better rest. Sorry for the emotions.
