My wife and I spent 10 days at the hotel, before that we had a 4-day trip around the country. We consider ourselves travelers who have already seen something, that is, we have the opportunity to compare.
General impressions of the hotel are positive. To begin with, I will say that when, after a trip around the country (we were a group of 14 people), we were brought to our hotel, many of those who went to settle further deteriorated their mood. Rather, the toad crushed. The fact is that the hotel is located on an island at the confluence of the Bentota River into the ocean. Not only did the boat come to meet us, but the view from the pier to the hotel was so wonderful that everyone got out of the bus not only to say goodbye (during the four days of the trip we became quite friends) but also to make a whole photo session against the backdrop of the river and the view of our hotel.
Rooms in the hotel are of two categories - deluxe and superior. The deluxe suites are located in the very center, in a complex-shaped two-story building. Superiors are located more inland, in one-story bungalows (there are three rooms in one bungalow. All rooms have a similar layout and a small verandah. Deluxe ones are slightly larger and have more recent repairs. All buildings are connected by brick paths, over which floorings from the rain are installed. Then there is in the midst of a downpour (usually in the evening) there is no problem from anywhere in the hotel to comfortably walk to a restaurant, reception, bar, etc. and back.

1) Deluxe rooms are closer to the bar, which means that until 23-30 in the evening the music will not let you fall asleep. In terms of silence superiry is preferable.
2) Some deluxe rooms have interior doors between them, making your neighbors audibly accomplices in your life. If this is critical for you, go to the reception and ask to remember the number.
The food in the restaurant, in my opinion, is somewhat monotonous, although there are both local and European cuisines. Fortunately, about a day later, shrimp and lobster are grilled for a fee at prices 3 times cheaper than in Bentota's sea food restaurants. Unlike Thailand, sea food restaurants in Sri Lanka are much less common.
From excursions from the hotel you can go:
! ) for a two-day trip around the country (people traveled, saw almost as much as we did in four days). There are nuances - the quality of the guide and hotels for the night. Some of our friends were pleased with the trip, others returned in the evening of the first day and spat terribly (on the guide and on the hotel). By the way, we also spat a lot on our guide on a trip around the country.
2) go to the sea to see whales and dolphins (cool!!! )
3) boat safari on the river
4) fishing in the ocean
5) fishing in the evening on the river.
Naturally, all excursions will be offered to you by a representative of your tour operator (we had Joining Up - in our opinion, it is far from the best of the operators in terms of the quality of the organization of recreation). But all this is possible and (in my opinion) it is better to buy from local beach-boys (the best are Pati and Adid). On your very first trip to the beach, polite guys will come up to you and offer their services in perfect Russian. Pati is definitely the "boss" there and is already somewhat imposing, and Adid is only at the beginning of the journey, but he is doing well. I had a birthday on the day of departure - so he gave me such a party on the shore - just a bomb.
Generally terrioriya hotel "licked" and very green. Have a nice holiday.
