We booked a room for two weeks and the date was chosen so that it coincided with the Catholic holiday of the Assumption of the Virgin (Ferragosto in Italian). This is an ancient holiday that ends the main agricultural season. It is very popular in Italy, it is celebrated with various colorful events. For example, we were going to get to Siena in the middle of the month on the Palio, these are such medieval races on bareback horses, unfortunately, it did not work out. In addition, I wanted to capture the summer season of discounts.
The hotel made a good impression on us, small, neat, it feels like it was recently renovated. It stands on the very shore of the Adriatic Sea, the beach is with the purest sand. Our room was "classic" with a side view of the coast. Refrigerator for drinks, air conditioning, modern bathroom-toilet. The room was cleaned daily, the bed was changed twice in two weeks, which is normal. And in general, the staff worked for the top five, calmly, kindly and without trying to lure a tip for work not yet done, which we often met, for example, in Turkish hotels. After the evening promenade it was nice to sit on the balcony with a glass of wine.
The cuisine at the hotel is naturally Italian, the basis of the menu is fish and seafood. I really liked the local shrimp, huge, almost lobsters. And of course lasagna, langvini with cucumaria, etc. In general, everything was worthy of the money we paid, a good European level, but still the main thing in such a trip is the country itself - Italy.
My husband rented a car (something around 50 euros a day), and we traveled on our own. This is not very difficult if you get guides and maps in advance and, after spending several evenings, set goals and routes for yourself. Of course, the first thing we did was visit Venice - a very unusual and exciting sight. Houses grow right out of the water. Gondoliers. Glaziers from the island of Murano and the glass museum. We got to Verona, the cities of Monteca and the Capulets. We have been to Padua. We looked at the oldest university in Europe in Bologna, which is almost a thousand years old. We went to Lignano - a resort town like Lido di Jesolo, a little east along the coast.
In short, impressions were gained for the whole cold Moscow winter. We are very glad that we ended up in Italy during Ferragosto – on our trip, we were in for a lot of small holiday surprises. At this time, they organize mass celebrations, fireworks, etc. , and gala dinners are served in hotels. We are going to continue our acquaintance with this wonderful country.
