Routes Genoa
Let's start our route from the main railway station of Genoa - Stazione Principe with the metro station of the same name. There are two stations in Genoa, don't mix it up!
1. Exit the station building to Piazza Acquaverde. On the left we see the monument to H. Columbus, and on the right the old church S. Giovanni Evangelista de Pré . We go straight along Via Balbi and turn right at the first crossroads, to the "quay" street Via A. Gramsci. On Via Balbi we stayed one night before the cruise at the "Standard Hotel Genova", five minutes walk from the train station. The maritime station is in front of us, on the pier there is a handsome liner MSC "Splendida", on which we leave for the Mediterranean, then through Gibraltar to Casablanca. About the cruise - "Brilliant Splendida" report.

2. Cross the road to the embankment and go left, along the sea. The first object on the right is Museum of the Sea - Galata Museo del Mare. Behind him on the pier is a real submarine. We take pictures and move on. After 100 meters, on the left, the ancient tower - Porta dei Vacca.

3. In front, on the left, handsome Galleon, which was filmed in Pirates of the Caribbean.

You can climb it in summer. After 200 meters on the left is the territory of the Genoese Aquarium, the largest in Europe. The pier leads to the Biosphere and the Marina Hotel. Here is the Boat Pier and the Antique Port - Porto Antico.
4. Cross the road to Piazza Caricamento.
Going further along the embankment
Immediately to the right, a beautiful Palazzo S. Giorgio
, and a little further ahead, two beautiful palaces at once: on the left is P. Emanuele Filiberto Di Negro, and on the right is P. De Marini. There is a passage between them - we go into it and exit to pl. Banks (Piazza Banchi). On the left Loggia Mercanti (Loggia dei Mercanti, XVI), in which the first commodity exchange in Italy (XIX) was opened. On the right is the amazing church S. Pietro della Porta.
5. From the square we go to the right on Via Canneto il Curto, then the third intersection on the left, leaving on Via S. Lorenzo. We go straight and see the most historical part of Genoa. After 300 meters we reach Piazza S. Lorenzo, where the Cathedral of Genoa (Caffedrale) is located. Let's sit on the steps opposite the cathedral, admire eternity. Let's "stroke" the lions at the entrance to the cathedral, listen to the musicians and move on.
6. Go straight to Piazza G. Matteotti, where on the left is the Ducal Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the former seat of the government of the Republic of Genoa. Now here is the Palace of Culture, where exhibitions are held.
A rally of Italian communists is being prepared near the Ducal Palace. Nobody forbids them. This is Europe, after all!
There is a "flea" market on the square in front of the palace, where you can see cool antiquities. Right across the square is the unique S. Ambrodgio church. You should definitely visit it.
7. We go straight along Via di Porta Soprana and exit to the double-tower gate Porta Soprana, which is the remains of the fortress wall (XII) of Genoa.
Porta Soprano with the remains of the fortress wall
We pass through the gate and exit to the square. Dante (Piazza Dante), where a small two-story house entwined with ivy hid on the left. Christopher Columbus was born there in 1451. Turn left on Via Dante and see on the right the amazing Galleria di Sant Andrea XII.
8. In 3 minutes we go out to the central square of the city - pl. Ferrari (Piazza De Ferrari). To the right is a beautiful Palazzo della Borsa, in the center there is a large fountain.
From the series: "Me and the Fountain", "Me and the Palm Tree" small>
Behind the fountain is a monument to Giuseppe Garibaldi and the city's main theatre, Santo Felice (1828). These sights mean it's time for a bite to eat.
9. We go toTetra Santo Felice and go outside on April 25 (Via XXV aprile), the theater will be on the right. We go straight along this street, about 400 meters, and exit at Piazza delle Fontane Marose. Beautiful palaces of the 15th-16th centuries begin, but the fairy tale is just beginning.
10. We turn left and find ourselves at the beginning of the famous Garibaldi Street (Via Garibaldi). Palaces, one more beautiful than the other, right and left, in a row. The most famous of them are Palazzo Rosso (P. Rosso) and Palazzo Bianco (P. Bianco). We pass the street to Piazza della Meridiana and go straight along Via Cairoli to Via P. Bensa.
11. We leave along this street to Piazza della Nunziata. To the right of the square is the SS Annunziata del Vastato church, and to the left is the Palazzo Antoniotto Cattaneo (XVI) palace. We cross the square straight ahead and exit onto Via Balbi.
12. There are also several interesting palaces on this street. The most interesting after 300 meters on the left is the Royal Palace (Palazzo Stefano Balbi/Palazzo Reale XVII). The palace is open until 19.30, so you can have time to take a walk in it, walk along the marble stairs, go upstairs.
13. Leaving the palace to the left, continue walking along Via Balbi and after 500 meters there will be the starting point of our walking route - Piazza Acquaverde with the monument to X. Columbus and the railway station. There are several restaurants in front of the square where you can dine, but the prices there are expensive and the choice is small. The coffee shops are great though.
This is how the walking route through beautiful Genoa turned out. Half a day was enough for everything, it's time for us to go to the ship. We have lunch there and get ready to sail.
What we watched -
-Oceanarium, 2 hours, and a museum with a submarine - right on the embankment, you won't miss it, we liked it. Nearby on the pier there are cafes with souvenirs.
-There is nothing to do at the lighthouse.
- Via Garibaldi street from 4 Palazzios - for an amateur, we were interested in the fact that in the evenings with the transition to the night they host wonderful concerts of local talents, the acoustics and entourage are very good . .
- already on the ship we were told that we needed to see the local cemetery. This is an open-air sculpture museum. Wealthy Genoese during the period of the Republic of Genoa could afford sculptures for graves.
- blackening blacks stand in rows along the entire embankment and sell various figurines, handicrafts and cheap leather dolce gabanas on spread sheets. Tourists are not bothered until you ask yourself, Europe... When the police appear, the entire crowd of illegal immigrants throws sacks of junk rolled up at 4 ends behind their backs and gives a tear. We were almost swept away by this herd while we were choosing a hippopotamus from a real ebony.
