Croatian Makarska - clear sea, nature and noisy evening streets
Were in Makarska in mid-July. Great time to travel. Air temperature +32 - 35. Water is warm, both at 8 am and at 9 pm. The heat is not felt at all. The mild climate is created by pines and the Adriatic Sea, which is rightly considered the cleanest.
The highest exchange rate in Volksbank (we had 1 euro = 7.43 kuna), on the waterfront, for example, it was 7.25.
The beach itself is pebbly, clean and covered with pine trees. If you come before 10 o'clock, it is quite possible to take a good place. In the morning the sea is clear, in the afternoon there are floating tubes and plastic cups. People are very diverse - from families with babies hiding in the pines, to young and beautiful. On the other side of the beach, behind the bay sunbathing nudists. However, in my opinion, you can only sunbathe there. The waves hit the rocks too much. There is also no civilized sunset in the sea.
At the expense of sea urchins: the sea without large stones, the water is clear, everything is visible, the depth comes in 2-3 meters from the shore. Therefore, there is no point in buying shoes, except that there will be an invasion of hedgehogs. Most people bathe without slippers. On the beach you can lie on towels - this is not the most comfortable option, but many do. You can buy softer bedding - from 50 kuna. Sunbed for rent - 60 kuna daily.
Toilet by the sea - 3 kuna. But, if you wish, you can ask for a free restaurant.
If you want to go on a tour, there are suggestions. For example, we went to Hvar and Brac. The tour (250 kuna per person) included a boat trip, lunch (grilled mackerel or chicken and cabbage salad). They sailed to Hvar for 2 years. We stayed there for 40 minutes. In these 40 minutes we managed to bypass three streets. As I understood, if you go there, it is only for the sake of the Church of St. Mary, because otherwise the meaning of coming to Hvar is unclear.
From Hvar in 30 minutes we reached the beach Bol on the island of Brac. The ship docks in the port, and there is another 5 minutes by taxi for 15 kuna. We stayed on the beach at exactly 3:00. It is worth going to Bol - picturesque. On the one hand, the waves are the perfect atmosphere for windsurfers, on the other - the water surface.
You can get to Bol on your own, by ferry (from 8 am to 8 pm), and then by taxi. The ferry goes from Makarska to the town of Sumartin. It costs 66 kuna in both directions. Near the taxi ferry - 50 kuna per person. It is difficult to get on your own - 23 km. Hitchhiking there also does not roll. Sumartin itself is not a tourist destination. There is no place to walk there, but you can find a good deserted beach or a beach where locals rest.
Excursion to the south to the mountain Biokovo costs 180 kuna per person. You can get there for free - on the waterfront and in the city there are information centers that advise on climbing the mountain.
If you decide, be sure to take mountain shoes and leave earlier.
Naturally offer excursions to Split, Dubrovnik and Plitvice, rafting and other attractions. On average 1.5-2 times cheaper than the tour operator).
There are a lot of entertainment and sports attractions on the beach: banana, water parachute - 15 minutes (the price depends on the height, for example, height 200 m for three 500 kuna), catamarans (1 hour - 60 kuna).
If you want shopping - Makarska is not exactly the place you need. There are few shops there. Mostly with some low-quality shoes and the same clothes. The promenade is full of souvenir shops - the cheapest souvenir - a decorative bag of lavender - can be purchased for 10 kuna.
You can dine in one of the many restaurants on the waterfront. The menu is posted in front of restaurants, prices can be compared on the spot.
For example, a large plate of mussels, which is enough for two - an average of 70 kuna, fried squid with a side dish of potatoes and vegetables - 45 kuna, risotto with cuttlefish ink - 45 kuna, grilled squid - 60 kuna, pizza - 35 kuna.
If something is more affordable - on the beach they sell corn for 12 kuna, on the waterfront and in the city there are a lot of bakeries with delicious pastries. We liked the buns from Wavis - an average of 7 kuna. Ice cream is also 7 kuna. They also make pancakes - 15 kuna and potato chips.
You can buy products and other goods in the Konzum supermarket (located on the waterfront and another nearby bus station). We preferred the Tommy supermarket, which is closer to the beach. There are good prices and a wide range.
Now the days of culture are passing in Makarska. Each country, presenting its culture, organizes concerts, presentations of national dishes and more. The music is buzzing until 4 am.
So, if you prefer a quieter holiday, keep this in mind.
