Walking in Rhodes - Lindos
At 56 km from the capital of the island - the city of Rhodes, on the eastern coast of the island is the old, picturesque city of Lindos. In ancient times it was the most powerful and prosperous city of the island.
Lindos is a rock with an acropolis, surrounded by a medieval fortress, around a transparent turquoise sea, small beaches, snow-white houses with narrow streets lined with characteristic local mosaics.
The main attraction is the second most important acropolis in Greece. In the acropolis - the ruins of the temple of Athena Lindia (VI century BC), a shrine revered by the Greeks. Also in the city is an Orthodox church of the XIII century, built on the site of an even more ancient church.
The ascent to the acropolis is not easy, but the view from its top is worth it. If you wish, you can climb on a local taxi - a donkey. The cost of this dubious pleasure is 5 euros.
We go down to the city, which is actually located in a certain bowl. There are beautiful bays on both sides of it, and in the southern ring bay - St. Peter's there is a split in the rock against the background, which everyone takes pictures of.
On the one hand, Lindos is a city for a secluded, beach holiday, quiet and lazy, and on the other hand, on the main street, it is worth turning there - constant turmoil. Souvenir shops are full of souvenir shops, cafes are here at every step and on every roof. Most of these cafes and taverns have terraces overlooking the Acropolis and the bay. On one of these terraces in the cafe Milos, we had a rest and a wonderful lunch.
