We chose the hotel according to the following principle - the first coastal, in the middle of the island, so that it would be most convenient to travel around the island, of course the price is inexpensive, because. planning to rent a car for the whole time. And the hotel justified itself by 100% And even better!
The taste and color, of course... It depends on who and why is going and what he is counting on.
Yes, indeed, Petrinos is not designed to sit there all day! It's terribly boring and there's nothing to do there! Almost everyone who was there rented a car and drove around the island. For this, its location is very good!
Across the National Road (min 7 walk) there is a supermarket, next to it is a superb bakery - what is there just not there!! ! M-m-m-m-m!!! ! I still remember the taste of their cakes and cookies!

All rooms of the hotel with a villa on the sea. We slept with the balcony open all night. It is such a pleasure to listen to the sound of the sea! Split they have for a fee, like a safe, it seems 2 euros per day. We weren’t hot, we didn’t take a split.
Nearby is a wonderful cafe "11" (ileven) - everything is very tasty. And the wine and olive oil seemed to us the most delicious. The prices are normal (Greek, not cheap, given their crisis in the summer of 2011, with the strikes of taxi drivers), the portions are very large. The owner and waiters are very friendly.
Most of the hotel tourists took cars and excursions in Voyager from Roman, he was highly praised. But we did not reach it, it was far away (somewhere to the left along the old road it was necessary to stomp in the heat). We were not looking for easy ways, we got on the bus. we arrived in Rethymno, walked the whole coast there, found out that it is not easy to rent a small car at the height of the season, ordered a Chevrolet Matiz topless -)))) villages directly to the hotel (35 euros per day + gasoline 75 rubles per liter - not cheap! ). And the remaining 8 days we traveled almost all over the island, having rolled about 2 thousand km. And this is the best vacation here! It makes no sense to sit in a hotel in Crete! This is not Turkey or Egypt. There is no animation and all inclusive; here is a different type of holiday, so there is no point in buying an expensive hotel. Naturally, who did not like it - he just likes to relax in a different way.
Crete is washed by different seas from all sides. The northern coast is the Cretan Sea, with wind and waves knocking you down, sometimes not allowing you to go up to your waist! The southern coast - the Libyan Sea - is cool by a couple of degrees, but calm.

Riding through the mountain villages, watching the life of the Greeks is a separate pleasure. The mountain scenery is breathtaking! This is such power and strength! And the roads, citizens, are just a miracle! We were at the height of the season, on the National Road, of course, the traffic is quite dense, but in the mountainous rural villages - NO ONE!! ! Everywhere asphalt, good quality. But, beware of wild goats - they can run out onto the road very unexpectedly.
Traveling to the ruins is a waste of time. Frankly speaking, it's not interesting. It is a pity for the time spent on the Phaistos Palace and Gortyn. In hot weather, it's not much fun.
I really liked Rethymno, with its small streets, shopping shops, a good beach. Han, despite many good reviews, we were not impressed.
Elafonissi - pink sands - great, of course. But there, even from Stavromenos (where the hotel is located) it was far to go (about 200 km one way, along a terrible serpentine - Sochi is resting !!!! ). And it was very windy there, and therefore we quickly froze and returned back. But the area itself somehow reminded me of Thailand. There is little pink sand there. Food in cafes there is very expensive, take everything with you.
Lake Kourna is the only freshwater lake in Crete. They say there are turtles there, but we didn't see any, but we rode a catamaran (from 7 euros per hour, depending on the species), swam in the lake, fed the geese. It takes less than an hour to drive from the hotel to the lake, and you can take two roads - along the coast and along the mountains! To not be bored back, you can go back another way.
We were very happy with our stay! ! And you shouldn’t bother at the hotel, it’s only needed there for an overnight stay! Have a good holiday everyone!! ! Crete is great!
