In the Samaria Gorge on your own
The Samaria Gorge is certainly beautiful, although I like Guamka in Adygea more. A story for those who find it difficult (or too lazy) to walk 18 km over stones is a classic excursion. I went from Bali, but the option is suitable for all vacationers from Heraklion to Chania. We traveled by bus. Sat on the earliest Heraklion-Chania. He will take you to Via Vrisse. From there at 9 am there is a bus to Chora Sfakion. You can also get to Sfakion by car, but for two of us the transfer Bali-Sfakion-Bali cost 37 euros + a terrible serpentine at the entrance to Sfakion - think for yourself. From Sfakion at 10-30 there is a ferry to Agios Roumeli (40 euros for 2 round trips). An hour later - you are in Agios Roumeli - a village where tourists go who go through the gorge completely. By the way, there is a black sand beach - almost the same as on Santorini. The ferry returns at 17:30. Accordingly, you have 6 hours for a walk through the gorge, the beach, etc. There is only one road to the gorge - do not get lost. For the first couple of kilometers, follow the road. Next is the booth, where for 5 euros you buy a ticket to enter the gorge - do not throw it away - they check at the exit. There is no further road - paths and bridges across the river. We went deep into the gorge for 1.5-2 km - as you wish. We returned back - there were 3 hours left for the beach and the tavern. By the way, there were waves on the sea and the ferry could not approach the pier - it moored right to the beach! And back too. Extreme! Also keep in mind - the gorge is wide and the shadow is not everywhere! By the arrival of the ferry back to Sfakion, the Greeks drove several buses in order to disperse all those who sailed on the ferry in any direction from Chania to Herakleon. Good walk!
