Rested in the first half of September 2008 - two adults with a child of 4 years. This is our 5th trip to Greece and first to Crete. Before that, they flew to Corfu all the time. The room was a suite on the second floor with a direct view of the sea - very spacious and good, except for the fact that you could get a little electric shock when trying to open the balcony door after turning on the light there (but it's already so light from the pool lighting, etc.

The room was a suite on the second floor with a direct view of the sea - very spacious and good, except for the fact that you could get a little electric shock when trying to open the balcony door after turning on the light there (but it's already so light from the pool lighting, etc. , so we didn't turn on the lights. Well, yes, the Greeks are the Greeks, it would be strange if there were not at least some flaw. Very good buffet and excellent service in the restaurant. Breakfast was freshly squeezed juices. Good wine list. The contingent of vacationers is mostly Scandinavians, less - residents of Eastern Europe. Families with children and pensioners (most). Quiet and comfortable.
What is boogie-woogie in Cretan we felt only 3 times in 2 weeks: on the very first weekend, when a wedding thundered under our windows until the morning, on the second week, when the hotel had an opening day and we went to the beach bar and the pool was filled with a company of English youth, most likely from Malia or from somewhere clearly far to the east, and for the last time, on the night before departure, when they were again celebrating under the windows, this time the engagement. And so, animations - 0.0. There is a playground next to the grass with swings and slides, we spent the evening there after dinner. Another plus of the hotel is its own underground parking. For a fairly small fee, it is possible to leave a rented car there and not suffer later when landing in a salon half-melted from the sun. There is also free parking nearby. So, from this point of view, the hotel is convenient for those who, like us, travel a lot during their holidays.
Disappointed the beach, because.
in this part, when entering the water, there are only stones and it is practically impossible to enter the water. My broken knee healed for more than a month (((But you can catch crabs and fry right in front of the hotel, which we had fun with the child using children's equipment, which you can take for free in the hotel back room. You can rent jet skis and drive off to the right towards Agia Marina Beach Resort, there is a gentle entry into the water and no stones. It is hot, long and inconvenient to walk there, because crushed stone / pebbles are poured in places full of cuts on the shore, which terribly heats up in the sun. Despite the breakwaters, there were often big waves and hung red flag.
About the place. There are many taverns where you can eat outside the hotel. Nearby (5-10 min. walk) children's amusement park. There is where to go with the child after dinner if you want to take a walk.
But keep in mind that the sidewalks in Agia Marina - Platanias are narrow, and the movement of people along them and cars / scooters / motorcycles along the road is very busy. That is, children must be watched carefully.
For those who take a car, you can choose this hotel as a reference point if you aim for routes in Western and Central Crete. We drove 2000 km in 2 weeks. I especially advise Platanos (not to be confused with Platanias and Platanias! ) and Falassarna (6 km from Kissamos to the west) - a wild, but insanely beautiful place. From other places we got to: Paleochora, Frangokastello, Matala, Agia Triada, Bali, Kissamos, Chania, Akrotiri peninsula, Rethymno, Georgioupoli, Lake Kournas, Pelekas and Elafonisi.
I think that you can safely go to this hotel if it is important for you what and how they are fed, that there is a calm contingent of vacationers nearby and that the hotel itself is not out of the way from the rest of civilization, but at the same time you yourself are not going to sit in the hotel and rely on beach next to the hotel, etc.
Yes, it takes 2-3 hours to drive from Heraklion on your own, depending on the load on the main road by car. The bus will be even longer (4-4.5 hours, probably). Therefore, if you are going to go there, think about the option with Chania airport.
