Just yesterday we returned from Crete with my husband and daughter (5 years old). Aeroflot flew back and forth, their planes (TU-154) are old, not very comfortable. I want to say right away that the "star" of hotels in Crete and in Greece is generally very strange, alien to general European concepts. On the catalogs and on the Internet, the photographs and descriptions of Elounda Bay palace were so respectable that I immediately wanted to go there. For two weeks we waited for the confirmation of the hotel, we got a visa, and even the rather high price did not bother us (we paid 22.000 rubles for a week). Finally the X hour came, we arrived at Heraklion airport. Their airport is very modest, dirty, absolutely not adapted to such a huge number of tourists.

The meeting party was Le Grand, there are no complaints against them. We had an individual transfer to the hotel, they put us in a taxi (an old Mercedes), but we got there absolutely well, the road from the airport to the hotel took about 1 hour.

The hotel impressed us with its old age. The fact that it was built in 1975 can be seen immediately, but they blatantly lie about the annual updates written in the catalogs. Greek-style interior - white rough walls, dark floor, dark furniture, some vases, chests. We had a superior room sea view, but they gave us a completely small dark room overlooking the mini market. To the question: “Where is the sea view? ” They began to lie to us that our reserved room was not vacated by a tourist on time, as she fell ill, but this is only for one night, tomorrow after breakfast we will transfer you, and in the form of compensation they give us Greek night. To put it mildly, we were disappointed. the next day we were nevertheless transferred to the promised room, which turned out to be larger and brighter.

We had half board - breakfast and dinner. Breakfast is still nothing, but dinner...The choice was not very good, but showing off...The waiters meet you, escort you to the table, pull up a chair, give you starched napkins.
By the way, there is a dress code, but I saw people in shorts and slippers at dinner. Mostly it was ours. The Italians and the British are all brand new, dressed up, cheerful. In general, it’s better not to take dinner, but you need to go to different restaurants, which we did later. There is a good fish restaurant Thalassa, and on the territory of the neighboring Elounda Beach there is a good French restaurant. On Wednesdays at the fish restaurant Lobsters party - I recommend to go, it's very tasty.

Pleased with the sea - clean, warm, with a convenient entrance. There is a pool with sea water, a children's pool with jets and an indoor one with chlorinated water. We went to the Aqua plus water park, in principle, nothing, there are a lot of slides, there is a "lazy" river. Taxi from the hotel and back - 120 euros. At 15 min. walking distance from the hotel is the village of Elounda, the small port, souvenir shops and numerous taverns. There is a sightseeing train that takes you to the neighboring village of Plaka and back. I advise you to go, the children will especially like it.
We never went to the Greek night on Saturday, although we were indeed given a free invitation as compensation for spending the night in another room. In general, the impressions of the rest were not bad, but the general appearance of the hotel (still old! ), the price-quality ratio overshadowed our mood.
