Batumi is a city of crazy architects.
We spent quite a lot of time in Batumi - who attracted us with its metropolitan chic in provincial Adjara. It is interesting here, I want to walk and eat where to eat delicious food! But, above all, architecture is striking - from squat houses, cosmic "mushrooms" of various architectural madness grow. Of course, this is impressive, but it also somehow tires, puts a little pressure on the psyche if you are standing between skyscrapers. But, this is not important, since you don’t need to stand there for a long time, but you should go to the center (which is very conditional), stay closer to the port. We originally wandered along the promenade (called the Boulevard), which is simply unusually long (and separates the beach from the city). And all the most interesting at the port!!!
So, so as not to go over once - take at the airport card Batumi and brochures for tourists and determine the route: what to see where supermarkets (food is cheaper and for weight, as well as free tastings), where cafe and so on.
A few words about the city: The story of Batumi is rooted deep into centuries. The legends of Apollonius of Rhodes, Pliny, Xenophon contain information about the settlements that existed on the site of modern Batumi. This fact suggests that even in ancient times the peninsula, on which the city is located, was a "gateway to the sea", served as an important strategic object. The name "Batumi" was transformed from the Greek "Batius Liman" - a deep harbor. Now it is the main port of Georgia.
During the reign of Mikhail Nikolozovich Saakashvili, a fundamentally new image of Batumi was “invented”. From the Italian "Piaca", it is not far from the Spanish house in the style of "Gaudi". Incredible "alien" towers and next to the classic Adjarian appearance of a restaurant near the lake "Adjarian House". New skyscraper buildings among modest houses of pre-Soviet architecture. Hi-tech McDonald's and a house with Greek-style columns, but. . . uh, turned upside down. I will repeat someone else's phrase - the Festival of architectural hallucinations!
It seems that they have released madness (in a good way) and told: "Sculpt! "... And they broke away to glory! Very interesting and somehow stupefying.... that's why the "old" city seems nice and cozy.... the atmosphere of a kind of siesta and oriental slowness calms you down. Here they sell vegetables in private shops, children and dogs run around, local men communicate on the street in the shade and in cafes, and ladies spend time in tiny hairdressers. At every turn you will find something interesting and unusual! Batumi is worth seeing - it wants to show itself to you and wants to like it! There are places for every taste! Chic Sheraton and Hilton, apartments and hostels, unusual fountains, various cafes (the most delicious coffee in the world, it seems to me, is here - creamy chocolate), temples and sculptures, the Boulevard promenade and cozy streets of old buildings, extensive beaches, a panoramic funicular and fish a market behind the port, where you can fry any fish, a botanical garden and fashionable shops, museums and theaters. Everyone will find a place to their liking! It is interesting here day and night... with and without wine... Come and see for yourself!
