What we liked:
1. Beautiful large well-groomed territory
2. Polite (albeit slow) staff
3. Cleanliness is almost flawless
What did not like:
1. Boring. There is no music on site. There is no animation at all. In short, a complete "help yourself". Fortunately, the island of Tenerife is quite interesting and we went somewhere almost every day.
2. Paid room for children (8 euros/hour per child). And there are no Russian-speaking nannies.
3. Nutrition. The buffet selection hasn't changed at all over the week. There are a lot of fruits, but there is no meat at all, only bacon and sausages. Lunches, consisting of sandwiches, french fries and boiled pasta, generally resembled a public catering. In the evening, the menu in the restaurants is super modest (one page in large print), and the taste of the food is weaker than in restaurants outside the hotel. True, there are two trendy restaurants in the hotel, but they are not allowed to go there with children, so we did not get there.
4. Redneck. Payment for drinks: tea 5 Euro, glass of wine 10 Euro, ice cream 5 Euro/ball, etc. The minimum cost of lunch is 60 Euro. It was treated by going to a supermarket in Adeje.
The general conclusion is that the rest is not bad, standard, no better than Turkey / Egypt (well, maybe it will be cleaner), but the flight at almost 7 hours puts an end to our revisiting this island.
What we received exceeded all expectations. We were settled in Tagore rooms, given golf carts, a personal assistant, and were generally ready to be licked from head to toe. The hotel impressed everyone. Starting from incredible and lush greenery (despite the dry weather of the island as a whole) and ending with delicious food.
We tried a lot of a la carte restaurants, we liked all of them, but probably the buffet is the best. The breakfasts were also very tasty, although small (we preferred to eat at a separate breakfast for the Tagore rooms).
Separately, I would like to note the beach - it is so inconveniently made for non-residents of the hotel that even on weekends there are almost no "aliens".
In general, not rest - but a fairy tale. The only thing that upset us was that they tried to cheat us every time at dinner in the buffet. Either more glasses of cola will be counted, then instead of a glass of wine - a bottle. But all this was immediately corrected with a smile and apologies. You just had to follow.
I would love to go to Abama again, and maybe even sooner than I think. This place is worth visiting without a doubt.
In a row.
1. Flight. You just need to be patient. Stock up on an iPad with downloaded movies and eat before you leave. The food is bad, no one will entertain you, and the flight lasts longer than 6 hours.
2. Transfer from the airport. Keep in mind that the Abama hotel will most likely be the last one in the disembarkation of passengers, so if you don’t want to ride around other hotels for 1.5 hours, take a taxi (it will cost 40 euros), and in 25 minutes you will be at the hotel.
3. Settlement. They settled us in 20 minutes. The girl at the reception explained everything very well - how to have dinner, what is where, etc. They are treated to champagne or a delicious mango fresh juice to choose from.
4. Number. Wow! Very big, beautiful, comfortable. We had ocean view. The room has a large balcony with chairs and a table. The bed is big. The only negative for me is that I like hard mattresses, and in the hotel they are very soft. As a result, my back hurt every morning... Of course, this is not for everyone. I think that if you ask to somehow solve this problem, then they will come up with something.
5. Room cleaning. Good. They left a tip of 1 euro. It happened that when they came to the room there was cleaning, but it did not bother, they finished very quickly. Every day they put very tasty chocolates near the bed. : )
6. The hotel as a whole. VERY green. For Tenerife, this is rare. The territory is huge. Huge golf courses. It's certainly not for everyone, but still. To the sea on foot about 15 minutes from the main building. If you go back from the sea - longer, because it's steep uphill. But for those who are too lazy, a buggy constantly drives. By the way, if you settle in some types of villas, they give you your own buggy for the duration of your stay.
7. Nutrition. Breakfast is very good, although not very varied. Tasty. Pastries, fruits, cheeses, sausages, salted fish, eggs of different types, yoghurts. We traveled expecting that we only included breakfast, and a very pleasant surprise was dinner at the hotel restaurants as a gift. Although you have to pay extra for drinks and not all meals are included - some have to be paid extra. However, the savings are still significant. I really liked the restaurant with Canarian cuisine by the pool - a form of buffet, but very tasty seafood, which is immediately cooked on the grill. Of course, the hotel restaurant, which has a Michelin star, was very pleased with the author's cuisine. The experience of visiting this restaurant is excellent. Didn't really like the Chinese restaurant. It is considered very glamorous and expensive, but this is not for everyone - fusion cuisine. Good Italian restaurant too. I really liked the cafe on the beach - huge portions. Tasty.
8. Beach. Small cove. Considered one of the best beaches on the island. Yellow imported sand. Not bad. True, after the bay of the Hillside Hotel in Fethiye (Turkey), I was not particularly surprised by anything. It is better to come to the beach in the morning, because the beach is small and if you come late, there may not be enough sunbeds and umbrellas. All beaches on the island are municipal, so even this hotel beach is visited by locals to swim. As a result, there are a lot of people on Saturday and Sunday. But it didn't really bother me at all.
9. Pools. There are two of them near the main building, and there are still small ones further near the villas. The main pool is very beautiful, with a convenient shallow entrance for children. But we did not swim there, because there were a lot of children. We enjoyed another pool which is "adults only". Magnificent mattresses and "boars", cozy, very green and quiet. We loved to lie on the mattresses and drink delicious sangria (champagne with ice and various chopped fruits - yum-yum).
10. SPA. Excellent! We went to the Water treatment (such as all sorts of sayny-jacuzzi) and aroma massage. Fabulous!
11. Excursions. We are not fans of driving in a big noisy crowd with a tight schedule. We took an individual guide by car, and did not regret it. In one day we looked at the whole island - and Loro Park, and Masque, and everything else. Another half day spent on the volcano - Teide. Be sure to go to the volcano, unforgettable impressions! Just go in the morning, before the crowds of tourists have yet come, otherwise you can stand in line for an hour near the ski lift.
We also went to the water park. Gorges are great! Just do not be stingy to pay extra 15 euros per person - and you will be given bracelets with which you can go down the slides 8 times without a queue. This is really enough! You crawl out of there barely, overwhelmed with emotions. Since there are a lot of people, without such bracelets you will have to stand in line for 30-40 minutes for each hill.
We were at a Flamenco concert. For an amateur. I liked it, but my husband wanted to run away during the intermission.
Recommendation: do not count on travel checks, it is better to take enough cash with you. We relied on traveler's checks, and were able to change them with great difficulty after calling American Express. Nobody wants to change them, because fakes often come across.
Summary: the hotel is VERY good. For the discerning. I personally found only one minus - the bed is too soft. All other hotels on the island are in noisy cities, with shared beaches. When we walked around Las Americas, I had the feeling that I was walking around Yalta. This is an amateur, of course, but this type of recreation bothers me a little. Abama is like an island of relaxation. But if you wish, you can always take a taxi - and in 10 minutes you are hanging out in the city.
Come here for sure!
Breakfast is varied, for all tastes and wishes. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, large terrace with the opportunity to sunbathe without leaving the room.
The beach is nice, clean and quite spacious. True, the sea was still quite cool, no more than 19 degrees.
Many pools, vacationers were evenly distributed and there was no shortage of trestle beds. Towels are provided both on the beach and near the pool.
The only thing that spoiled the experience a bit was the Tez tour of the island. Not a group one, we separately ordered a minibus (10 people friends), drove around the island normally, but for lunch we were taken to a "custom" eatery with local flavor, having dragged us along a steep serpentine for this. We never tasted the promised delicious seafood, but the smell of the rotten canteen is still in our memory. Be vigilant and discuss in advance all the nuances of excursions with a guide.
Returning to the hotel, I can sincerely recommend it for a wonderful family holiday.
