An unspoken division: western Europe by the pool (max depth 160cm, there is a fenced small children's section, there is no smell of bleach), and eastern Europe at the sea. But there were also exceptions. Sand. And sand in the sea. Beach extreme rental nearby. 10 days red flag. Amazing. We fooled around in 5 days (5 rode around the island) in the waves I don’t want to. Children bought surfboards for 10E - they were worn out. Rescuers ply on a quadric along the beaches of 4 hotels at once. They don't sit still. I saw their work. Well done. Pumped out. Pedlars are present. But not sticky like in Yegi or Turkey. Almost all of them are dark. They wear the same snack. In general, it does not bother.

The choice of dishes for 4ki is awesome and of high quality. Separate respect and respect for the woman who runs the restaurant. Duracel. I didn't see her standing, much less sitting. Good girl. The Vantaris Beach Hotel is very cozy, a lot of greenery, beautiful territory (see pictures). Nearby is Vantaris Palace5 * - you can go to the sauna (5 euros per hour, with a pool)
The beach is just great! At least 50 meters wide (probably the widest part of the bay), sandy. Entry into the water is smooth, about 30 meters you have to go to a depth of up to your shoulders, which is very convenient for families with children and people who cannot swim. For those who swim well - there are no buoys! - swim wherever you want. There are no motor boats and scooters with noise and gasoline either. Sunbeds and umbrellas on the beach are free of charge for hotel guests. There are beach towels. The water is clean and warm. There were few people. Weather - 3 days of complete calm and 3 days - light waves.
Cleaning is satisfactory, towels changed every day. The room had everything that was promised, except for the coffee maker. You can communicate with the staff in English, German, Russian - in the process of mastering. 75% of vacationers are German pensioners (all in pairs), the rest are families with small children, there were no schoolchildren yet. There were no noisy events in the hotel, the music in the bar was turned off until 11 pm, in most buildings it was not heard at all.
The food was delicious and varied, there were fruits (oranges, apples, watermelons, melons), vegetables, a lot of meat, fish - only one dish, a lot of various sweets.
Excursions. You won’t see much in 6 days, it’s worth going at least for 2 weeks.
We went to the island of Santorini - an unforgettable experience, extraordinary, incomparable cities of Oia and Fira. Worth a trip, despite the high cost (145 euros) and the tiring road (5 hours one way, 3 hours of them by sea on the ferry). Be sure to take a cream and clothes for protection from the sun, you will have to walk under the scorching sun for 6 hours. Strollers with children will have to be carried up the stairs.
The hotel is very well located for self-guided tours. Intercity buses stop 50 meters from the hotel. 45 minutes to Chania and 20 to Rethymnon, all air-conditioned buses run on time. It is worth visiting both cities.
Nearby is the village of Georgiopolis - about 40 minutes along the beach or by road. They have a promenade with cozy cafes on it. Go to the church of St. Nicholas - along the path of stones, at the end of the village.
The capital of Heraklion is inferior in terms of the number of attractions to Chania, their Venetian fortress differs little from Chania.
Knossos with its famous palace is the biggest disappointment of this trip. Yes, it is huge and very old - 20th century BC. With the exception of a few frescoes (copies), everything else is stones and stones, and mostly from cement and concrete (this is called partially restored). There is no beauty, 1.5 hours in the heat, there are a lot of tourists, stepping on their heels to see the “throne room” with a wooden chair (throne) or frescoes. There are a couple of downsides that led to a lower rating:
1. On the day of arrival, they settled in a microscopic room: 4 steps long and 3.5 wide, there is not even room to spread out a suitcase, a tiny balcony right above the bar, the sea is barely visible (and we also paid extra for the sea view). At the reception they apologized and swore in the morning to move to another, which they did. As a result, the room turned out to be simply huge with a huge loggia and isolated from everyone. True, without a view of the sea, which we spat on in the end. As they say, they don’t look for good from good - they didn’t want to live in that tiny room for another day.
In short, in spite of everything, we were satisfied and I advise everyone not to pay extra for a sea view - it makes no sense, because no one knows which hotel rooms will be free. The rooms are absolutely not equal and everything is still decided at the reception.
By the way, there were 3 more rooms like us in our arrival, all tiny and terribly uncomfortable - everyone was also moved the next morning.

I liked the food, very tasty (and in Greece it never tastes bad, believe my experience). We took All Inclusive, which we do not regret, because it justifies itself. It’s very convenient that you don’t have to go anywhere for lunch (there are a lot of taverns in the village, but it’s lazy to go in the heat), no problems with drinks - you always want to drink there, again, ice cream on the beach is also nice.
But the amount of food is always at the discretion of everyone, so I'm not campaigning. It just worked out really well in our case.
One minus here is only the waiters in the main bar - they are very clumsy and inattentive. You can sit for half an hour and not wait. In addition, if you like cocktails, it is better to go to a bar in Kavros, Georgioupolis, Rethymnon, etc. - much better and tastier.
The hotel is conveniently located, close to Rethymno and Chania, where I advise you to go on your own and better in the evening after dinner - all shops and taverns in the tourist zone are open until late and there is no heat. In addition, the fortress of Fortes in Rethymnon deserves special attention, it is very good, and it smells of antiquity.
And there is a cute town of Georgioupolis nearby - you can get there by taxi (5-6 euros), or by a nice train, a stop in front of the hotel, where there are shops with taverns.
We were very lucky with the weather, it was hot, the sea was warm.
By the way, indeed, all vacationers through Kalamaki have sunbeds and umbrellas on the beach for free. So we are lucky here too.
There are beach towels in the room, they are blue. There was a problem to change them. The first time they changed it themselves in the morning - after breakfast we will see some maid's cart (not even ours) and asked if it was possible to take - of course, you can. And if the maid is not visible nearby - they took it themselves, do not wait for her half a day. And later, our maid began to leave us two extra and changed herself. I guess I liked the tips : -) The maids are good, they clean very clean every day, towels are changed every day, linen is changed every two days.
For which I would lower the rating on the beach - lifeguards, or rather their absence. It is stormy - they have a green flag hanging, in the morning it is calm - the flag is red until the afternoon. Once a day, they quickly drive back and forth by car. If they suddenly notice someone who has swum far away, they whistle deafeningly. There is no rescue tower.
That's all their work. However, this may not be related to the hotel, but keep in mind. The waves there are often and not small and a very strong rollback - so be careful and rely on yourself.

Very attentive and helpful guides (special thanks to Sofia - the main guide), I would like to single out Maryana from the guides (were with her in Knossos and Elafonisi) - very knowledgeable, intelligent and pleasant. Very competently builds an excursion, listened with great pleasure!

We were very lucky with the weather, it was hot, the sea was warm.
By the way, indeed, all vacationers through Kalamaki have sunbeds and umbrellas on the beach for free. So we are lucky here too.
There are beach towels in the room, they are blue. There was a problem to change them. The first time they changed it themselves in the morning - after breakfast we will see some maid's cart (not even ours) and asked if it was possible to take - of course, you can. And if the maid is not visible nearby - they took it themselves, do not wait for her half a day. And later, our maid began to leave us two extra and changed herself. I guess I liked the tips : -) The maids are good, they clean very clean every day, towels are changed every day, linen is changed every two days.
For which I would lower the rating on the beach - lifeguards, or rather their absence. It is stormy - they have a green flag hanging, in the morning it is calm - the flag is red until the afternoon. Once a day, they quickly drive back and forth by car. If they suddenly notice someone who has swum far away, they whistle deafeningly. There is no rescue tower.
That's all their work. However, this may not be related to the hotel, but keep in mind. The waves there are often and not small and a very strong rollback - so be careful and rely on yourself.
Wonderful host - Kalamaki. Very attentive and helpful guides (special thanks to Sofia - the main guide), I would like to single out Maryana from the guides (were with her in Knossos and Elafonisi) - very knowledgeable, intelligent and pleasant. Very competently builds an excursion, listened with great pleasure!
One minus they have - not all buses work well with air conditioning. Maybe it's just this heat.
Excursions they offer a lot, all very high quality. We went to Knossos, Elafonisi, Santorini and the pretty mountain village of Margaritas.
Yes, who loves historical places - in Heraklion after the Palace of Knossos more than 2 hours of free time - be sure to visit the fortress in the port, the bus will just stop opposite and the guide will show it to you. You have to go inside - that's really antiquity, so antiquity, just something. But, to our regret, we did not manage to go deeper - we only took pictures at the cash desk - it turned out that it was open only until 15.00, and the guide did not tell us - at that time we ate in the tavern. We seriously regret this, because there were no days to come there again.
We did not take a car on purpose - there are no problems with taxis or buses (there is a schedule in the hotel) - but this is also a personal matter for everyone, many take it and are satisfied.

The hotel is mostly Germans, there are very few Russian-speaking tourists. So, the staff, besides the native, knew German well, several people spoke English well, including the reception, no one spoke Russian, nevertheless the staff is friendly and no one divides tourists into Germans and other people, which was very pleasing.
A hotel for a relaxing holiday, no noisy events and discos, entertainment could be found in restaurants across the road.
The beach is really big, there are a lot of sunbeds, because sunbeds on the beaches are paid, but tourists from Kalamaki Travel are issued a card that allows you to use sunbeds and umbrellas for free. The water is clear, even when it's stormy.
I was very impressed with the food, everything is very tasty and quite varied, a lot of meat, once there was even a rabbit, this is not Turkey and Egypt for you.
We took HB, but there are a lot of different restaurants, taverns and several mini markets nearby, so it’s simply unrealistic to stay hungry. Moreover, for 25 euros you can also have a wonderful lunch with dessert. I highly recommend the Romantika tavern, they are a little more expensive than in neighboring establishments, but very tasty and amazing homemade wine, we even brought with us.
From the excursions we went to the water park - a sea of impressions. In the last three days, we rented a car and drove around the surroundings: Georgopolis, the fresh lake of Kournas, we also went to the palm beach, this is in the south of the island - an amazing sight, the mountain river flows into the sea and there is a palm forest around, only you can get there only by going down walking from the mountain along the stone steps, and then you have to climb back - it's quite hard, but it's still worth going once.
