The charm of "little" Germany.
When we were offered to visit the city of Celle, I agreed immediately. I didn’t feel like just sitting in a hotel, although among the forests and clean air. My friend really wanted to go shopping. Neither did she regret it! The city is located in Lower Saxony. Mentioned since 986 as "a city located on the river" Kelle. The city was the ducal residence. The Ducal Palace in the Renaissance style and the beautiful park around it are perfectly preserved. Currently, the castle houses a museum, theater and. . . restaurant. The Gothic church of the mid-19th century is very interesting, but the Tower was completed at the beginning of the 20th. From the bell tower twice a day, confirming the accuracy of the time, a trumpeter blows. The altar is very interesting. The church is Protestant, therefore quite modest. To the left and right of the altar are carved bas-reliefs depicting the duke and his family. On the left they are very young and graceful. Their hands are folded in prayer. They, entering into power, ask for help from the Lord. On the right, they are already aged, quite portly, their poses are quite secular. The well-known idea "Power spoils"! Another interesting Bomann Museum. It presents materials about the history of the city and its environs. There is a real German village courtyard in life size and, as we were told, the museum is open 24 hours! That would be the Louvre! But the real wealth and decoration of the city of Celle are half-timbered houses. There are whole blocks of them here. All of them are decorated with carvings and paintings. Finding two identical is almost impossible. The day was weekday. There were quite a few people and therefore a complete feeling of the Middle Ages arose in the narrow streets. Some houses are being restored. There are about 500 of them in total. You can imagine entire half-timbered quarters! The beauty! Cafes and shops are located on the first floors of these houses. The weather was perfect and many stores had take-out counters. My friend was very happy with her shopping! To be honest, I was a little carried away. To everyone who is not indifferent to the Tudor style, I suggest that you definitely visit this small but simply charming city.
