I visited Baku in the winter of 2010. I flew for the first time, just for two days from St. Petersburg in transit through Moscow. The air ticket cost 14.500 rubles. (directly would be much more expensive). Already on the plane from Moscow, I realized that the people are very hospitable: a girl was sitting next to me, we started talking, in general, we parted at the Heydar Aliyev airport with warm words and wishes. … More ▾ I visited Baku in the winter of 2010. I stayed at Noah's Ark Hotel. I recommend! Prices are inexpensive compared to other hotels, and it is very clean, quiet and comfortable. To be honest, I was even amazed by the coziness and comfort. Made an online reservation in advance on the hotel website. The hotel itself is located, by the way, in the old town, close to the boulevard, nearby attractions, in general, the place is ideal. Therefore, I practically did not use public transport, I walked around everything on foot, only 2 times I traveled by bus (very cheap travel! ).
But everything else is expensive. A lot of construction is going on in Baku. This is immediately evident upon arrival. Elite housing. I managed to see a lot of cool cars during these 2 days! There are not as many expensive foreign cars in St. Petersburg as there are in Baku, I even managed to see the presidential cortege in a Maybach. School number 6. Not a school, but a palace. Boutiques are everywhere. Baku is a city of show-offs, definitely. Oh, a trifle, but I noticed: the sidewalk in Baku is mostly not smooth, but patterned (squares, rhombuses, etc. ), so shoes should be comfortable.
The city itself is insanely beautiful... you can feel the rich heritage of antiquity and at the same time the spirit of the new time, the combination is amazing. Especially when, during a walk, I saw such a picture: a palm tree and a birch grow nearby. This is Baku. City of contrasts. Delicious. It is not for nothing that Baku is called the city of night lights: everything is illuminated at night, such beauty! The funicular, unfortunately, was closed. But here's a small Ferris wheel - what you need. It’s a pity that I didn’t visit everywhere in two days, and the weather was not very windy, I saw the city only superficially (I didn’t go to museums) . . But it doesn’t matter, there is a reason to return, that means.
According to the population. When I flew, I thought that this is a Muslim country, that clothes should be modest, and so on. And I flew in and saw Azerbaijani girls in short skirts, glamorous, walking alone. Steam is running around. There are a lot of Russians in Baku, both girls and guys who live there. And she also drew attention to the fact that almost the entire population wears black clothes.
In conclusion, I would like to say that the trip to Baku made an unforgettable impression on me, left the warmest feelings in my heart... and now longing with a sad smile on my face when I remember... Seeing Baku once, having been in it, you will fall in love with it forever . It gives rise to a strange nostalgia and an immense craving to return back to this fabulous city... in Dzhan Baku.
