Vienna in May
You will immediately feel - the atmosphere of Vienna is aristocratic, sublime, full of sophistication and special charm.
As a child, within the walls of the music school, I heard a lot about the distant city of Vienna, because that's where the world-famous composers and pianists lived and worked: Mozart, Beethoven. It seemed that I was going to go not just on a trip, but to visit a respected person who has good taste, rich experience and refined manners.
Some facts from history
From the end of the XIII century. the lands of Austria belonged to the Habsburg dynasty.
Habsburg Monarchy is the unofficial name of the territories under the Austrian rule of this dynasty. All representatives bore the titles of dukes and archdukes. In 1804, the Austrian Empire was formed, uniting the Habsburg estates into a single state with its capital in Vienna. In 1867, the Austro-Hungarian Empire was formed - a dual empire between the Austrian Empire and the Kingdom of Hungary. It lasted until 1918.
Route
Our three-day trip turned out to be very busy. It is worth telling about it to inspire someone and 100% assure that everything is not so complicated and can be used productively even for a few days.
We flew to Budapest, moved to Vienna the same day, and returned to Budapest the next day.
From the airport to the subway in about 25 minutes by bus 200E. Then we went to the Budapest Keleti railway station to print out our actual tickets for the return train from Vienna to Budapest in a special machine. This could only be done in Hungary.
With the printed tickets we moved to the small bus station Budapest Flixbus Station (blue branch of the metro M3 Né pliget), where we were met by a bus to Vienna by Flixbus.
Arrived in the Austrian capital late, but on weekends the metro is open 24 hours a day.
About 02:00 found our apartment. It was a real adventure! We only had an address and a letter with information about the apartment key.
It was interesting to find the right box first, then enter the code, pick up the key, enter the old building, forget that in Europe first goes 0 floor, look for it in the dim light, then finally go up and go to the right door on the first floor.
Day 1
We woke up early, quickly gathered and went to the historic center. We had to take all our belongings with us, because we had to spend the next night in another hotel. Vienna is divided into districts. Central is considered to be 1 district (Inner City, INNERE STADT). Here are all the main objects within walking distance.
We took this route as a basis: "Walking route in Vienna" .
1. The first point and starting point for us was St. Stephen's Cathedral . Unusual colored roof hypnotizes and attracts the eye.
Reconstruction of facades is just underway.
We went inside for free. The cathedral is large, the interior impresses with its shapes and details. The lighting of columns and figures is very well organized.
The facades of the building seem openwork.
2. They also found Mozart's House , where the famous musician lived.
Food prices in Vienna are very high. We went for a snack at the famous Trzesniewski sandwich shop, which has been operating since 1902 and is located in a cozy place near Graben Street. They sell sandwiches with different fillings, the interior of the restaurant is very restrained, and the restaurant itself is very popular. But the price and size of the sandwich did not please us. I had to look for another expensive place.
3. Next on Graben Street we headed to the Hofburg.
This is a very beautiful and short pedestrian street with a Plague Column in the Baroque style, which has all its features: dynamism, splendor.
4. Visited St. Peter's Church (Peterskirche) . Meters are counted from one location to another. This concentration of architectural monuments and objects amazed us. Less than an hour has passed since we saw so much.
5. From Graben Street they returned to Colmarkt Street. It leads to the Hofburg (Hofburg). It is the winter residence of the Habsburgs and the main residence of the imperial court in Vienna. There is another summer residence, which we planned to visit the next day.
Hofburg is a grand complex of buildings and squares. The emperors of the powerful empire constantly built and expanded the residence, preserving the existing buildings.
The planning of the complex is devoid of symmetry.
There are many museums on the territory, which can be visited separately if desired. We only visited the National Library . It smells like history!
Entrance costs 8.00 Euro , but we joined forces with other tourists in the group and bought an entrance ticket at a discount. More precisely, we were united by one man, for which we thank him very much. This is an obvious opportunity to save, but not everyone knows how and wants to use it. We will try to use this practical experience next time.
Separately, you can visit the Globe Museum , where more than 250 exhibits of exclusive globes and celestial spheres.
6. Next we went to Town Hall and Parliament . The road ran through a garden with blooming fragrant roses.
We never ceased to enjoy all that Vienna had to offer. How beautiful, how pure in the heart of the capital!
7. Parliament headed for the Nashmarkt market. I read a lot of good reviews about this place. But, unfortunately, it was closed. We had a desire to try something new and special on the market. Take a look at where most locals are and dine at that establishment. I had to find the nearest cafe and dine not on local dishes, and french fries with a burger. I read a lot about Vienna's restaurants, cuisine, dishes, including Tafelspitz, but such expenses are not for this trip.
8. Museum Quarter has become a place of short rest for us. This quarter has several museums featuring masterpieces of new art - Austrian Art Nouveau.
This is a modern cultural complex, one of the favorite places of recreation of progressive youth, where there is a creative atmosphere. Local audiences sit on Enzi benches, relax, listen to themed concerts.
9. Through the Museum Quarter, we returned to the residence to two buildings. These are the twin museums - Art History Museum (Museum of Art History ) and Museum of Natural History em>. We went to the first ( (Kunsthistorisches Museumm Wien) ) - one of the largest art museums in the world, which houses masterpieces by famous artists such as Raphael, Rembrandt, Peter Brueghel the Elder, Giuseppe Archimboldo. These are the ones I especially remember.
The museum was created to house the imperial collections and has many exhibits: from mummies to fragments of the Babylonian gates.
The museum presents one of the largest collections of coins in the world.
The museum has a cafe and smells good coffee.
10. To keep Vienna from looking boring and monotonous, visit the < Prater Amusement Park . You need to move the subway. And other parts of the brain are guaranteed to turn on. Such a sharp change of activity, from calm, quiet contemplation of paintings, to emotional riding on a carousel height of 117m, knocks all the programs in my head and the day becomes infinitely long and unrealistically busy.
But that's not all ! ! ! !
11. After the park we went to another museum - House of Music (Haus der Musik) . Open daily from 10:00 to 22:00. The interactive museum surprises visitors with a variety of exhibits. We deliberately postponed the visit to the museum until the evening, because after 20:00 you can buy a night ticket for 6.50 Euro.
The museum has several floors, each with different entertainment and galleries. There are enough traditional museum exhibits and interactive ones.
What do you remember the most? I liked the mix that awaits museum visitors. On one of the floors in the walls there are holes into which you can stick your head and listen to the sounds of different cities. You can wear headphones and create your own sound background, adding sounds one after another: city noise, phone call, car alarm. A little further from the pieces in the walls, which look like shower funnels, different nasty sounds . Feelings are very strange, because a few minutes ago you enjoyed the melodies of Bach, and here you snore from the shower.
I read that it is possible to download an audio guide to your phone in advance. But did not try. The culmination of the whole program is orchestral conducting !
The virtual performance of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra will depend on your movements.
They left the museum late. We ate ice cream near the metro and went to look for our new 4-star hotel, which we managed to book cheaply for the promotion. But there was one downside that we spent the night in different places - these are backpacks that we had to carry everywhere.
After midnight, we went into the room and ended this busiest day of 2017.
Day 2
Hotel Novum Kavalier is located close to the Schö nbrunn Palace.
Importantly, this time the hotel had breakfast. After yesterday's unsuccessful attempts to eat cheaply in the city, we ate to the fullest and did not restrain ourselves in anything!
View from the window in our room.
Schö nbrunn is a luxurious Habsburg summer residence.
A huge palace complex where you can spend the whole day!
There is a lot of everything here! Bought a ticket for the empe Imperial Tour for € 14.20 with an audio guide. The tour includes visits to 22 rooms, including the private rooms of Emperor Franz Joseph I and Elizabeth of Bavaria, as well as luxurious halls of the time of Maria Theresa, which hosted sumptuous receptions, evenings of music. Household and interior items, 18th century furniture, cutlery of the imperial family, huge paintings - you can see everything. In my opinion, this tour is enough for understanding and general development.
I have always dreamed of the opportunity to visit such a magnificent palace.
The complex currently houses several museums and a zoo.
This zoo is considered one of the oldest in Europe and grew on the site of the imperial menagerie. Little twin pandas, born on August 7.2016, live here. We were lucky to see them when they were little. Very funny kids. Ticket price 20.00 € . On a hot May day, nothing better could be imagined. We gladly changed clothes and went to the zoo to rest.
An adult panda.
In November 2018, two-year-old pandas will be transported to China. This is the fourth offspring for the Schö nbrunn Zoo. One of the little twins.
The zoo has a separate pavilion with tropical plants and high humidity. "img alt =" P5290688.jpg "src =" https://ic. pics. livejournal. com/olha1606/78060663/102074/102074_original.
jpg "style =" height: 683px; margin-right: 10px; width: 1024px "/> After the zoo, we returned to the city center, ate ice cream, made some more good shots.
And only then a great idea came to us! Or you can go to BILLA and buy food there. Personal advice: if you are looking for a cheap snack (except for McDonald's) in the very center of Vienna in the area of St. Stephen's Cathedral, visit BILLA. There are many fresh suggestions.
Then we went to the station to wait for the train to Budapest.
For those who are interested in the route, I leave links to the sites of museums and the zoo. There you will find current ticket prices and learn more.
