We rested with my family (parents and me) in February 2011. We thought for a long time where it would be better to stay - in Bukovel itself or in one of the surrounding villages (since this is our first trip to the Carpathians - it was not easy to decide - the Internet is just full of right and left information and housing provided). Nevertheless, we decided to settle on the territory of the resort itself, so as not to be bound by the transport issue. I will describe all the "+" and "-" - I hope this will help other beginners of skiing holidays : )))
1) ROAD. We traveled by car from Dnepropetrovsk (with an overnight stay in Kyiv). I advise you to go around Ternopil, the road there, to put it mildly, is pitted. We drove from Kyiv to Bukovel for 10 hours (it was snowing along the road, the road was practically not cleared). We left at 7 in the morning, we were at the hotel at 17:00, it was still light in the Carpathians at that time.
2) HOTEL. Housing was selected through the Internet at home. We heard a lot of advice from friends, read reviews on the Internet.

The main nuances when choosing housing are:
- the further the housing is from Bukovel, the lower the price;
- all hotels require prepayment when booking (otherwise the booking is not guaranteed);
- the area in Bukovel is mountainous, so keep in mind that the farther the hotel is from the ski lift, the higher it is in the mountains (you will have to walk with skis in your hands.
We stayed at the Patkovsky Hotel (we didn’t book in advance, because we didn’t want to make an advance payment - all of a sudden we wouldn’t like the hotel; we decided to come and settle "on the spot"). I liked the hotel very much - I will tell you in more detail about the rooms in the new building (in which we actually lived):
PROS:
- to the lift R1 go 1-2 minutes to the left (to the 2nd lift - 5-7 minutes to the right);
- the hotel has excellent 2 meals a day (breakfast and dinner) - every morning and every evening, 5 options for a complex breakfast and dinner (to choose from). The food is homemade, fresh, hearty and varied, large portions;
- the hotel has a ski drying room (free of charge);
- the hotel has 2 buildings, although visually they are located in the same building (the new building has a separate entrance from the side, the building itself is more "calm", as children do not rush along the corridors. The rooms in it are new - with new furniture, plumbing, plasma TV and a magnificent view of the ski lifts!!!! );
- the hotel has free Wi-Fi (it's a pity it doesn't catch in the new building);
- there is a grocery store in the hotel building where you can buy everything you need (on order, they will even bring you something that is not on the counter);
- the hotel has hot water around the clock;
- audibility in the rooms is "moderate", as in most apartment buildings (unlike wooden houses, where, as I read on the Internet, there is no sound insulation at all);

- in a double room: corridor (large closet, shelves for shoes, bags, hooks for outerwear), bathroom (toilet, sink, heated towel rail, shower, set of towels, shampoo, soap, toilet paper, mirror, hair dryer), living room (large bed, 2 bedside tables, desk, mirror, coffee table, set of glasses, plasma TV), some rooms have an unglazed balcony (just super!!! );
- free guarded parking at the hotel (however, the number of places is limited);
- I repeat once again - a gorgeous view from the window on the 1st lift and the houses of the Bukovel Group of Companies (especially in the evening, when everything is lit up with lights, and early in the morning - when it snows)!!!
CONS (I would say, rather than cons in the literal sense, but some nuances that you should pay attention to):
- the rooms do not have a local telephone, refrigerator, minibar, slippers and bathrobes;
- in the rooms of the new building does not catch Wi-Fi;
- the restaurant where breakfast and dinner are served is located in the old building (so from the new building for breakfast and dinner you need to go across the street);
- there is no elevator in the new building (which turned out to be very useful for us personally after a hearty meal : ))).
3) SKI RENTAL. We rented all the equipment. There are many rental points on the territory of Bukovel, but the largest selection is at "Rental No. 1" (located in a multi-storey parking under construction on the left behind the barrier (already in the resort). As a deposit, you need to leave a passport, or a water certificate, or a cash deposit (about 2 -3 thousand UAH per pair). The cost of rental depends on the category of equipment and on the period for which you take the equipment.
After each day of skiing, the skis are stored in the hotel (in the drying room).
4) SKIING. For those who travel to Bukovel for the first time, it will be useful to know: each skier purchases a subscription in the form of a plastic magnetic card called "SKI-PASS" (for 1 lift, for several lifts, for 1 day, for several days, etc. . - depending on your desire). It is convenient to store this card in the outer pocket on the sleeve of the jacket (when you go to the lift, it works automatically, you do not need to take it out every time).

I don’t know how it used to be, but this season there is a wonderful promotion "Rankova" - every morning from 7 to 9 in the morning you can buy a ski pass for the whole day with a 30% discount (valid from 8:00 to 16:30 on any lifts unlimited number once). The only caveat: 1 ski pass is issued in one hand (in case you want to get enough sleep and instruct one of your company to "drive" for discount passes, we are waiting for you a little bummer : )) But there is a secret here too: you can for a person to take a queue in 2 windows at the same time and buy 2 ski passes in one hand : )) The main thing is "not to sleep" : ))
As for the slopes in Bukovel, there are 3 types: blue (for beginners), red (for connoisseurs) and black (for professionals).
We were on skis for the first time in our lives, so we only visited the blue slopes. By the way, in Bukovel there is a ski school where anyone can work out with an instructor in a specially designated place without any problems before going out on the slopes on their own.
I want to draw ATTENTION newbies !!! ! Route 1C is marked in blue on the slope map, but in reality it is very difficult. I don't recommend it for beginner skiers. It's better to start with the slopes (ascending order from the easiest to the most difficult, in my opinion) - 7A, 3A, 13E, 5B! ! (the best, again in my personal opinion), 14A. Also be prepared for the fact that when moving from one track to another (and from one lift to another) there are more difficult sections that you will have to overcome anyway. Here I advise you to be especially careful, it is better to play it safe 100 times and quietly go down with a plow than to be a hero and fly after other skiers.
ENTERTAINMENT. As for entertainment in Bukovel, in addition to skiing, there are a lot of interesting things here: a skating rink, riding a zorb (a huge transparent ball), riding a segway, quad bikes (this is what we tried). And there are snowboarding, dog sledding, snowmobiling. By the way, near the 2nd lift there is an entertainment complex (bowling, billiards, slot machines, a nightclub, a restaurant). And it is very convenient to cross the territory of Bukovel on "brychkas" (carts with horses driven by local colorful men in Hutsul costumes : ))))). This pleasure is worth 10 UAH per person - it's just a miracle after 6 hours of skiing to take off your skis and ride on a brychka (from the 2nd lift to the Patkovsky hotel it takes only about 2 minutes to go) : )))

Ehhh!!!!! ! So many positive emotions for 4 days of rest, and while writing this review - as if I experienced it all again : )))))))))) All the same, the Carpathians are a winter paradise, and Bukovel is a super vacation - comfortable, convenient, thought out to the smallest detail. Will definitely come back here again!!!
If you have any clarifications or questions, I will be happy to listen and answer!!! ! I wish you all a great holiday!
