But what is surprising, the water utilities, as always, were cunning, and hot water was turned off for their solemn two weeks everywhere, despite the cold June and July.


And maybe even these reasons made me visit the southern resorts more than once in the summer of 2017, but I'd better tell you about the extraordinary and exciting sea voyage that happened to me. . .

And for me, the marine theme was absolutely not ridden, and I had long dreamed of being on a cruise ship, but what happened then did not even fit into any framework of my desires. . .

And when a month later I received an offer to make a company on a yacht in the southern seas, of course, without hesitation at all, I immediately agreed, and did the right thing!

What is sailing by sea? Believe me, this is not at all what is shown in the films - lying bodies on a snow-white deck with a glass of champagne. Of course, our holds were saturated with food and drinks, but the constant (PERMANENT) pitching will not let you relax. Gape a little, and you and your glass will fly overboard, and it is likely that you will have to fly in front of your crystal / plastic liquid holder.

There are large yachts, there are small ones, all of them are designed for their adventures, we had a medium one, ready for sea travel, designed for a team of 3 people with the big name "Caprice RO214re". In principle, more people can be pushed onto it, but wandering the seas for several days will probably not be very comfortable with a large composition.

So, Ilya Savenkov (captain and owner), Igor Potapov (chief mate), and I, Maxim Filimonov (desperate passenger), set off from the glorious city of Rostov-on-Don to Kerch. We were destined to sail first along the Don River, then cross the Taganrog Bay, overcome through the Sea of ​ ​ Azov, and get to the shores of the Black Sea. Then, of course, in the same way, go back.


- Ilya, but I want to swim right in the middle of the sea, how dangerous is that? - I asked my next question somewhere on the 3rd day of our journey (in total, our journey took 10 days). And is it possible to find yourself in a situation that happened to the heroes of the psychological drama "Drift", in which the guys also decided to go on a yacht and ended up in an extremely deplorable situation? If anyone has not watched this film, I will briefly retell: the friends went on a yacht to the sea, decided to swim, jumped into the sea, but did not lower the ladder into the water, and then simply could not climb back onto the deck.

- Of course, it is quite easy to find yourself in such a tragedy, and there should always be at least one person on deck in case of any situation. There was recently a real case, here, on the Sea of ​ ​ Azov, when a team of a dozen sailors, under the guidance of a professional, being quite far from the coast, ran aground, and the captain ordered everyone to jump into the sea, and rocking the yacht, push it off the sand. This can happen when the keel hits a sandbar (a keel is a wing that is under water, reaches several meters in depth and is a natural defense against capsizing the boat). But why the captain ordered everyone to jump into the water is already a mystery. As a result, the entire composition of the yacht, being overboard, pushed it out of the shallows, and the yacht, picking up the wind in the sails, sped off by itself. No one could catch up with her, as well as stay alive...

In general, when my friend asked me after our trip, tell me, Maxim, but how dangerous was your trip, were there any cases when your life was in danger? - I thought, and answered very accurately:

- I can't count how many times I've been on the verge of a life-threatening situation, because. . . it's always been.

Yes, yes, the sea does not joke even when it's calm, and we had cases when we had to be in open water both on a dark night and in a squall, when the waves cover you from head to toe, albeit warm, but not jokingly raging water, trying to carry overboard; there were different situations, but despite all the extreme, it is unrealistically cool to sail, steer a yacht, fight the wind, pull the sails when the wind pulls the ropes out of your hands, tearing the skin from unprepared hands. . .


You know, when only on the 5th day we reached the city of Kerch, where we were met by local dolphins, and for the first time in these days I stood on the ground without pitching, I was a little afraid - would my vestibular apparatus be able to get used to a flat, motionless support. It's not funny, but the body gets used to constant excitement, and now I understand why the sailors' dance "Bullseye" is so a little half-drunk.

But everything was wonderful, and in general, in a past life, most likely, I was a sailor, because my acclimatization happened instantly.

The most attractive thing is that on the day when we moored in the city of Kerch, Igor had a birthday, and it was another great reason to make a holiday. After a bit of trickery in the city itself, and having familiarized ourselves with local sights, the next day we had to urgently evacuate the yacht to a calm harbor, as according to forecasts, a strong wind was approaching, in which you can’t hide in the sea or stand near the shore; and having worked hard, we still managed to find the right harbor near the Zaliv plant.

In general, of course, I really saw that having a yacht, you also have a considerable number of problems that constantly need to be solved. Not only do you need to have knowledge about the structure of ships, understand marine navigation, and have a bunch of permits, you also need to know parking places near the coast. And there are practically none for yacht owners in Russia.

You still need to have a good reaction, and be absolutely adequate.

I had to manage a yacht more than once on our trip, and I will tell you this - for a reason.

Just imagine, in one unit of time you need:

1) steer

2) control sail tension

3) observe the direction of the wind using special ropes (sorcerers)

4) look at the echo sounder and calculate the depth (so as not to run aground)

5) see each approaching wave and, based on its height, direct the yacht towards it, and immediately, once on top, try to slide sideways on the wave, and not plump down

6) hold on to the railings so you don't end up in the raging water

And so it can go on for several hours. . .


I remember well our first night on the high seas (I wanted to write - space). As a rule, we stopped for an overnight stay near some shore, but here, the coast guard did not have time to tie us up (usually, the border guards contacted us by radio and insistently offered to moor to the shore for the night), and we ended up right in the sea.

In general, of course, the military paid too much attention to us, and questions about our coordinates were constantly pouring in. Although any ship (including ours) is equipped with special sensors that show the location, for some reason the military always got in touch with us. So, this night brought a lot of mysteries and incomprehensible situations. Our path lay to the south, and right in front of us, on the course, a huge moon was shining brightly, beautifully illuminating the sea and the waves that had to be overcome. Suddenly, closer to midnight, misunderstandings began to occur with the Earth's satellite - it began to dim, as if someone had begun to reduce its brightness with a large dimmer. This was not good, since her light is the only one that helped us navigate the sea, apart from, of course, the compass. An hour passed and there was not even a dark spot left of the moon, it simply disappeared, although there was not a single cloud in the night sky - the stars and planets were visible, and their constellations could be easily distinguished.

On the other hand, some kind of electric glow began to appear in the water itself, which, like sparklers, scattered from the sides of the boat. I tried to peer into the waves and understand what was the source of these oddities, but the speed of movement did not allow me to find the cause. I didn't have the courage to go down into the water and explore the unusual substance. . .


Girls, here are two important facts for you to note: there is no mobile connection in the sea, and the best washing machine is the sea! If you tie your belongings to a rope and throw them overboard, after a while the yacht moves, they will become incredibly clean. The foaming, raging sea will wash them cooler than any washerwoman. True, do not forget to return them in time, as one night is enough for gutted ropes to remain from your strong jeans; with such force, sea washing usually occurs.

In general, of course, when traveling on a yacht, you get not just new impressions, but you discover new spaces for yourself. For example, having been in the open sea for such a long time, I stopped feeling any fear of water space, and if earlier the sea was an unknown mystery for me, now it is my native element.
