About astronauts in Pochayiv and unknown Kremenets.
And from our window Lavra Pochaivska can be seen! I had never seen the Holy Dormition Lavra before, and now I can even see it from the bedroom window. Of course, not every house and hotel can admire the baths of the Lavra from the window. But we were lucky, we settled in the complex "Family Nest" and right from the window of my room offers a magnificent view of the Lavra.
Accompanied by Father Anatoliy and our cool coordinator Yuri Mishchuk, we went on an excursion to the Holy Spirit Hermitage.
Scythia is a monastery far from the city, usually sent monks who are guilty of something and often do not let parishioners, but here in the Hermitage is a hospital for the mentally ill, so anyone can come here.

This Hermitage was years earlier than the Lavra. According to legend, the monks saw a deer on the mountain, started shooting at him and shot him 7 times, but no bullet hit the deer, the deer jumped up and flew into the sky, leaving only a string. The monks realized that this place is a symbolic combination of heaven and earth. They came to the abbot Methodius and he advised them to build a monastery here. That's how the Scythian monastery appeared.
The territory of this monastery is much smaller than the territory of the Lavra, but here it is somehow more cozy, quiet and peaceful. Besides, almost no one knows, but there is an aviary with animals kept by monks. There are deer, donkeys, parrots and even ostriches. There is a garden here, a pond where monks fish. Ordinary parishioners are not allowed to enter, but we were shown the territory.
As in the Lavra, there are many sacred objects, interesting icons and legends.
But all this is worth seeing with your own eyes. I can only say that I was struck by a huge well, more than a hundred meters deep. Father Anatoliy poured a jug of water and asked us to see how many seconds later the water would hit the bottom. It took a full 12 seconds to hear the water reach the bottom. This means that the depth is really over 100 meters.
Pochaiv is not only the Lavra and the church, so we went to the museum. The museum has been operating here since 1959. Initially, it worked as a museum of atheism, but now it is a historical and art museum and the museum has more than 40 thousand exhibits.
The museum is small, but many exhibits seemed interesting to me. The history of Pochaev from ancient times to the present can be traced in the exhibits. And the most interesting thing is that there is a room dedicated to astronautics. Who would have thought that space and religion could be combined under the roof of one museum.
There are models of satellites, and a model of the lunar rover, and food for astronauts, clothes.
I'm very far from astronomy, but I've always been attracted to stars, spaceships, orbits and planets. So I hung around looking at the details of the moonwalkers, satellite models. I think the children here will be very interesting!
In addition to the exhibits, we met in the museum with a very interesting person - a local writer Rita Kvach. She wrote the book "Svitochi Pochaeva".
During these two days we were able to meet both the artist and the writer in Pochaiv! You immediately understand that creative and interesting people live here. And it's true, Rita writes about all these interesting people and artists: artists, actors, craftsmen and designers of the city and region. So far, Rita has collected material for a new book. More than 250 outstanding and interesting people have already been written.
For example, I was struck by the fact that the founder of Ukrainian cartoons and a film actress lived here in Pochaiv. I would very much like to have such books in every region.
I know a little about outstanding people of Nikolaev. And in vain. History and people must not be forgotten.
Unfortunately, the weather is not on our side today, so we could not do everything planned. But I am impressed that the inhabitants of the city understand: Pochayev is not only the Lavra, and the Lavra is not the city. Of course, this is the main symbol, the main point where tourists go, but it is important and necessary to develop other areas.
By the way, Taras Shevchenko lived and worked in Pochaiv for some time. He loved to paint the Lavra, loved to relax on the hills and create here.
After starting us, I probably didn't want to let go so quickly and decided to delay with my laptop. We stopped at the Dynasty bakery and decided to enjoy coffee and a sandwich.
But the coffee probably smelled so good and was so appealing that my laptop decided to try it too. In general, now I know that my computer is still a hipster, loves coffee and smells like it.
The next point of our route is the city of Kremenets. But before the trip there we still had time to drive to the strawberry farm. Did you know that most strawberries and raspberries are grown in Ukraine? ! ! I didn't know, I thought it was somewhere in the south. We talked to the director of Ecofruits. This company is one of the largest suppliers of berries in the country and supplies this delicacy to various companies like Danone for yogurts. To grow such berries you need to constantly maintain the required soil composition, know its features. And to make sure we all have enough strawberries and raspberries this year, we donated a free soil analysis certificate from SoilCares to Ecofruits.
And so we rushed to Kremenets, leaving the domes of the Lavra behind. I didn't know then that this is still an unknown city, so I like it!

The rain was getting heavier, my eyes were closing, but we all didn't give up.
The first thing we were shown was the unfinished and not so well-known even among the locals, the palace of Count Voronin. The style of the palace reminds me of the Swallow's Nest.
Voronin used to own this palace, then the Radziwills, but now the house is owned by the Agricultural College.
Very nice palace in soft turquoise tones. I think that in sunny weather, and in a wedding dress, it will be beautiful! =)
Т. k. here is now an educational institution, then nothing special inside and there with open arms are not allowed. You can walk around the territory. Entrance, by the way, is paid - 10 UAH.
And then there was the library and the former Jesuit monastery!
And here we began to reveal secrets that have always been on the surface, but almost no one talks about them. Did you know that St. Vladimir's University (now Shevchenko University) has its origins in Kremenets? Did you know that the Fomin Botanical Garden in Kyiv also has its origins in Kremenets? ! !
The fact is that Kremenets is an ancient city. Official mentions of this city appear in 1227. Although the findings on the territory of Kremenets testify to its early existence. The city withstood the siege of the Tatar-Mongol yoke.
The territory of the Kremnets region has always been large and there were many figures. And in 1753 a lyceum was opened at the Jesuit monastery, and in its base was a library that stored more than 35 thousand books. In this huge collection of books 1.5 thousand copies dated to 1520.
Can you imagine? ! ! One and a half thousand incredibly old books. And they were kept in this library, including the Ostroh Bible in the original.
But now, unfortunately, there are no such rarities in the library. The oldest books are 1892 editions. All valuable books were exported to Kyiv, Ternopil, Ostroh. It was on the basis of this richest library that the University of St. Vladimir was created! Here's how!
We toured the library. She is wonderful. I generally like books, they keep more than just text. They preserve the history, energy, mystery of the world.
They even brought us the oldest books from the archive that are now in the collection. These books are stored at a special temperature so that the letters do not spoil. The library is now available to everyone and on a level with the age history there is Wi-Fi =)
The cathedral next to the library can't help but attract attention.
This is now the Cathedral of the Transfiguration.
It is now merging with the Pedagogical Academy and the Library into a single complex.
And inside the cathedral even lead the corridors of the academy.
The cathedral itself consists of two churches: the lower church and the upper. In the upper are services in the warm season, and in the lower in the winter, because there is always the same temperature.
The cathedral impressed me. I love this architecture, and you can see it from anywhere in the city, because it is the tallest building - 42 meters.
I have already mentioned that in addition to books, a botanical garden was transported to Kremenets from Kyiv. The same Jesuits opened the first pharmacies in the city and to replenish the pharmacy with drugs, they began to grow herbs and trees.
And on the basis of this collection the botanical garden in Kremenets grew. There were many rare plants and even palm trees grew.
But in 1834, rare plants began to be transported to Kyiv and the Fomin Botanical Garden was opened in Kyiv.
Currently, the Kremenets Botanical Garden has 200 hectares and 3.000 species of plants. We even saw a northern kiwi here.
Next to the Transfiguration Cathedral and the Academy is just a crazy cafe "Bravo". There we ran to warm up and eat.
The cafe opened in the building of the former photo studio. The cafe is very small, made in the style of a cozy apartment aristocrat.
The design here is just bombastic. There is a fireplace, floor lamps, paintings, several tables and high ceilings. In this cafe you want to drink hot coffee, eat desserts, listen to music and look out the window at the rain.
But we just did not do coffee, and tasted Greek salad in bread. This is the first time I've seen a salad served in a loaf of bread. And it's very tasty.
They ate hot mushroom soup and pancakes, which looked like khinkali. It was delicious! Here I sincerely recommend!
For many, Kremenets is a story about Bona Sforza. Bona herself has never been to Kremenets. But a lot is called by her name here. And most importantly - the castle on the mountain is also often called Bonnie Castle.
The Princess of Milan received this castle and city from King Sigismund 1. There are many legends around Bonn then and now. She is said to have been a vampire, bathed in the blood of babies, and roamed the city at night. All these legends were born out of a kinship with Count Vlad the Impaler, known as Dracula.
Now only ruins and a few fortification walls remain of the castle. But it is a favorite place of citizens and the main symbol.
We walked steadily in the castle in the rain, looking at Kremenets from above.
This is a great observation deck.
It's a pity it's not so clear now. But even with such weather, it's great here. The main thing is to dress warmer and hide from the wind.
Festivals take place here. And I would still climb at night to look for the ghost of Bonnie =)
Our day was very busy: Pochaev, museum, writers, Kremenets with castles and libraries! But our forces are not limitless. To replenish our forces in Kremenets we went to the country complex "Bibina stodola".
This is a very spacious complex with gazebos, a restaurant and even a lake with catamarans! I hope the sun will be tomorrow and we will admire the beauty!
