The legends about the island are interesting, one of them tells that in order to win in Troy, it was necessary to sacrifice the daughter of one of the kings - Iphigenia, but Achilles (the king of the Scythians) decided to marry her... Iphigenia was a priestess in the Temple of Artemis (in Greek mythology, the virgin, always young goddess of the hunt, the goddess of fertility, the goddess of female chastity) and vowed not to marry and hid from Achilles... Achilles in love wanted to take HER by force, but Iphigenia decided that it was better to throw herself into the sea than to betray Her Goddess. . .
Artemis saved Her priestess by sprinkling sand in front of her feet. . . For a long time Achilles pursued the nimble Iphigenia, but never caught up with her: his feet sank in the sand - he was tired and left her. Thus, a spit in the sea was formed, more than 100 km. , Which was called Dromos Achilleos (Achilles Dromus), i. e. Achilles run.
