Sand driving skills, on the example of the road to Kinburn
Having ridden enough along the sandy roads of the Kinburn Spit, I can say that the most disgusting piece of the road to the spit is not sand, but an asphalt road from Golaya Pristan to Geroisk. Such insidious and numerous pits have never been seen even by the Odessa-Reni highway, known throughout Ukraine. We drove a section of 50 km for 2 hours. After that, driving out onto the sandy road along the forest and lakes was a relaxing experience. So:
Rule 1. Take a shovel with you. The shovel should be with a large full tray (bayonet) and preferably with a long handle, about half the width of the machine. When you sit on your belly, you will understand that with a small sapper shovel you will row until the morning. And if there is also a short handle, then you will have to do it lying under the car, over your head.
Rule 2. Follow the rut. We only had to dig when we were off the rut. The resistance of fresh sand is much higher than that of rolled sand. Even if you scratch your belly - do not get off track. Even if the track does not match your span, then try to keep the track with at least one pair of wheels.
Rule 3. Don't slow down. Go through loose sand at high speed. There are legends about a guide who allegedly knows a good road and leads to Pokrovka on Zaporozhets with the inscription "Hooligan". Its secret is simple - a light car and a speed of 40 km / h. At this speed, you can drive any car.
Rule 4. Wet sand is more reliable than dry sand. Even if the sand is knee-deep under water, it is still harder than loose dry beach sand. But when you walk on water or along the bottom of a reservoir, do not stop.
For those who are going to Pokrovka, I would also advise you to install and run the Google. Maps navigator. Of course, Google does not know the roads on the Kinburn Spit. But, as you understand, there are no crossroads on Kinburn, there are only forks. And the navigator helps a lot to keep the right direction at these forks, not to make unnecessary detours and not accidentally end up in Vasilievka instead of Pokrovka.
