"Tudukh-tudukh, tudukh-tudukh" - that's how our morning sounded instead of an alarm clock. That night we spent in the recreation room at the train station in Shepetivka.
And it seems that even the beds were comfortable, but the trains run here without interruption, and the woman who announces them works on conscience! So, in my sleep, I broke through again and again - “The Kyiv-Uzhhorod train is coming to the first track! Be careful and cautious! »
But you don't have to go anywhere, you woke up, and you're already at the station. At least get out of the window on the train.
We have a train waiting for us to Berdychiv. Today we are going to Zhytomyr region.
From Shepetivka to Berdychiv the train takes a little more than 2 hours and costs 18 hryvnias.
In Berdychiv we were met by the coordinator Anya, who lives here, knows her hometown well, but studies in Kyiv.
Our day today was calm, a little rainy and calm.
We stayed at Ana's house, had a snack and some rest. Thank you for that!
And we started our acquaintance with the city from the main avenue, which is affectionately called "Broadway".
Berdychiv was once also owned by the Radziwill family and now there are several objects left. Remind me of this.
One of them is the church of St. Barbara. But this church is known now not because it was built by Varvara Radziwill, but because Honore de Balzac married his beloved Evelina of Ghana here.
And Balzac once said, "Ukraine begins in Berdychiv. "
The city is really very nice, quiet.
Many old and interesting buildings look through the treetops.
Berdychiv was also known to have a large percentage of Jews in the population. But for us on the 19th day of the route it is not surprising. We are accustomed to the fact that in almost every city we visit, we find echoes of Jewish society, the cemetery, the synagogue.
But here in Berdychiv we saw the really largest Jewish cemetery. Huge area, many old graves. The cemetery has only recently been cleaned and tidied up. The most amazing thing is the graves here. Nowhere before have we seen such an incomprehensible form.
There is also a museum in the city dedicated to the Jews of Berdychiv. It is located in the library building. Admission, by the way, is a free and built museum not by Jewish society, but by the initiative of the city.
But the biggest attraction for me was the Monastery of the Barefoot Carmelites.
Now the monastery is called the sanctuary of the Mother of God.
This is a majestic monastery with fortified walls clearly visible from both the avenue and the river.
The monastery has been located here since 1630, when the barefoot Carmelite was donated by the voivode Jan Tyszkiewicz.
According to legend, Jan Tyszkiewicz was in Tatar captivity and had a dream in which he learned that monks were praying for his release. He promised himself that he would definitely give the monks a monastery. After returning from captivity, he kept his promise.
The Order of the Barefoot Carmelites begins the construction of the monastery from an underground church, builds cells, trade rows and does not forget to strengthen the monastery. Reliable walls, cannons and a shaft with a drawbridge appear around the monastery.
Jan Tyszkiewicz himself presented the Order with an icon of the Blessed Virgin Mary, which was passed down in his family.
Now this monastery is the main decoration of the city.
Inside the monastery is the same icon of the Mother of God (or rather, a copy of it), which was illuminated by John Paul II.
The monastery also has a museum of the city's history. Free admission. In general, Berdychov surprised with free admission to museums))
There is also an art school on the territory of the monastery.
I really liked the monastery, the territory inside and outside. It is somehow calm, peaceful and comfortable.
We were also taken to the old Jewish courtyards where people still live. The courtyards look very bright.
I think they can find a portal to Odessa.
They echoed very strongly in me with the old courtyards of Odessa. But they look bright only for tourists, probably to live in them after so many years without repairs is not so bright and fun.
In general, Berdychov made a pleasant impression. Cute leisurely city, where there is a place to walk for a day and relax from the noise and bustle.
