Our friends rested in this hotel LE MERIDIEN PHUKET BEACH RESOR 5 * and we visited them several times (we ourselves lived in the north of Patong).
Very good hotel, located on the bay, beautiful OWN beach, which is rare for Thailand. Lovely garden in front of the hotel.
Of the minuses - perhaps the remoteness from the party places (to Banga Road about fifteen minutes by tuk-tuk, in 2009 it cost 250-300 baht one way). But this is also for someone, for whom it is a minus, and for someone it is a plus.
The price of the hotel is average.
Also, be careful if there are big waves!
This is a bay, along the edges of the cliff. A girl was rescued with us, during strong waves she was dragged to the rocks.
And there is a real whirlpool. Well, the Thai rescuers noticed in time and managed to pull her out. So do not neglect the elementary safety rules when a red flag is raised on the beach.

Good choice between hotels. I would choose Movenpick. Five stars are really felt - quiet, beautiful, chic tropical garden, swimming pools, restaurants. Everything that should accompany 5 *. Le Meridien is tired, there are many Russian tourists, although there is a large swimming pool and a private beach. But on the other hand, on Karon, the sand creaks underfoot like snow (1 of 7 similar beaches in the world), there is infrastructure (which is not in Le Meridien, but from what it is, everything is a little expensive) within walking distance. In general, I, living here, would still choose Movenpick! =)))
