Adriatic Cruise from Venice Part 3
To be continued - start here
Visit Koper on an Adriatic cruise.
Leaving Venice, our liner "Voyager of the Seas" headed towards the port of Koper. This is Slovenia, the only port city in this country. Every day, in the evening, a kind of bulletin was brought to our cabin, where it was written what was planned on the ship for the next day.
The bulletin about Koper said: Ko? per is a city in Slovenia, on the Istrian peninsula. The largest city of the thirty-kilometer strip of the Slovenian coast. It is in close proximity to the Italian border and the city of Trieste. Koper grew out of an ancient Greek settlement known as Aegis. During the Roman period, it received the name Caprice, from which the modern name of the city comes.
After having dinner, having looked at the ship for a while and, given that the day was quite busy, we lay down to rest on a huge bed, and in the morning it turned out that our liner was already moored at the pier of the port of Koper.
We are greeted by a brass band that performs Slovenian folk melodies. After a quick breakfast, we went to see the city. More like a town! From our terminal they left the port, at the exit we were given a whole pack of advertisements, and there was also a map of Koper.
A map is a map, and we follow the people up the stairs to the slope, look at the old fortress, then we pass a deserted street and go out to the central square, where almost all the sights of Koper
The Praetorian Palace is the most famous building of Koper, the most beautiful palace in the Venetian Gothic style of the 15th century, opposite the Loggia Palace on the square, it has an art gallery. We look, take pictures and cannot understand why there are no local people, it is somehow deserted.
We go further along the deserted beautiful streets and go out to their main street.
And now, it turned out where all the people were. "Smoke rocker"! There are tents all along the street,
fun, music, tasting local wines and strong drinks, trying out local dishes and confectionery, serving fruits (ripe cherries, strawberries, etc. )
I really liked the tasting of local moonshine, over 60 degrees, made from dried grapes; the apparatus, polished to a shine, was demonstrated; there was a recipe; testing was carried out repeatedly, especially when the owner found out that I was Russian. Nearby, the local noodles with meat, which we were also offered with all our heart, did not interfere.
These Slovenes treated us to local drinks and snacks
We thought it was some kind of their holiday. But no!
It turned out that in connection with the first visit to this port of a liner from our Royal Caribbean cruise company, the local authorities arranged this Sabantuy, and the Slovenes treat us wholeheartedly, and take communion themselves.
In general, walk along this street back and forth and you can relax near the fountain in the square.
Well, very interesting!! ! For many, the remaining sights have somehow turned out to be useless. A lot of music, folklore songs, dances, they pull us into their dances
This is how they had fun in the glorious city of Koper. When they felt that their legs, and not only their legs, began to buzz,
Along the promenade along the beautiful Adriatic Sea
We reached the port, where it was calm, because there was nothing edible and alcohol in our hands (everything was carried in our stomachs! ) went on board the ship. It is forbidden to carry any food and alcoholic beverages on the liner. After a short rest on the ship, we splashed in the pool, then watched the departure of our ship.
And on the pier, music played (concert of brass bands)! It seemed that all of Koper poured onto the embankment and waved their hands to us, saying goodbye. The ship went to sea, and we went to prepare for the captain's reception.
