Moore. Winter look...
More and more popular is the city of Murom among tourists. Especially with the emergence of a new holiday in Russia - the Day of Family, Love and Fidelity - celebrated on July 8, the day of memory of Saints Peter and Fevronia of Murom. Most reports about the city are summery. Well, I offer a winter look. . .
An epic stone, installed at the entrance to the city from Vladimir in 1967.
Every year during the New Year holidays we go to Saransk to visit our parents. Of course, it is easier and more comfortable to travel by train,
especially in winter, when the road can turn into a continuous test,
but you can bring a lot of gifts by car : )
This year we decided to slightly diversify our ordinary and already boring Moscow-Saransk route with a stop in Murom, just halfway. Our children (daughter, 8 years old, son, 7 years old) were very unhappy with the decision to go to their grandmothers by car, well, they were just terribly outraged. But having learned that we will have not just a trip, but a whole journey with a stop for the night at a hotel, and even in the city where Ilya Muromets was born, they changed their anger to mercy : ))
The morning of December 30 turned out to be rather gloomy and gray. Cars left Moscow in a continuous stream. After Vladimir it became somehow lighter, there were fewer cars, the road was worse...
And closer to Murom, even the sun came out
And then my daughter said that, it turns out, they only saw such beautiful trees on TV and in pictures. Well, at least some benefit from this trip : )) Actually, of course, this is not so, they saw it, they just don’t remember it anymore : )
Volna Hotel was chosen as the place to spend the night in Murom. Very nice little hotel at a reasonable price. I have a separate review for her.
After multi- and high-rise Moscow, the two-story historical center of Murom seems small and toy
Desolate and non-fussy
Abandoned in places
and vice versa, well-preserved
Slightly stiff and frozen
Could I ever think that I would tell my children what this machine is : ))
Digression: about thirty years ago in the village where we spent all our holidays, there was an unspoken division between the kids, as it were, cool and not so : )), there were loudspeakers on one street, and on the other, where we lived, no. Bringing water home or dragging it to the bath, in general, was a child's duty, can you imagine how we envied those who had columns : )) But if suddenly the water pump broke down, then there was already a holiday on our street, then we were harmful as they could, there were no wells left there anymore...
Okay, let's run to the sights, otherwise the daylight hours are short
First of all, we went to the monument to Ilya Muromets
The cupolas of the Nikolo-Naberezhnaya Church peep through the branches (the first mentions in the sources of 1566)
There is a spring nearby, where, according to legend, Nicholas the Wonderworker appeared several times
This is a former ferry crossing across the Oka, which stopped functioning in 2009 with the opening of a cable-stayed bridge (we will see it tomorrow).
Oka embankment
A railway bridge is visible on the left. I don’t know how it is in summer, but on a frosty winter day you can hear trains passing through it. On the right is the dome of the Church of Cosmas and Damian. According to legend, it was on this spot that Ivan the Terrible's tent stood when he stopped in Murom during a campaign against Kazan.
Higher on the shore stands the Church of the Smolensk Icon of the Mother of God (1804)
I did not have a clear plan of action, just a list of the main attractions with rough estimates in my head about what to do today and what to do tomorrow. I would very much like to visit the theater-museum of Ilya Muromets, but, unfortunately, there were no performances that day was (previously written off with them). It's a pity, for some reason I think we would have liked it. This object is not in different lists of "Top attractions of Murom", I accidentally stumbled on information about the theater on the net, now I'm sharing it with you, it will suddenly come in handy : ))

T. since the children's part of our company needs to be entertained somehow, then from the monument to Ilya Muromets we went to a more lively part of the city - to the square of the 1100th anniversary of Murom. We passed by the "frozen" Zvorykin (for more information about the fate and activities of perhaps the most famous Murom resident, you can read, for example, %B2%D0%BE%D1%80%D1%8B%D0%BA%D0%B8%D0%BD, _%D0%92%D0%BB%D0%B0%D0%B4%D0%B8%D0 %BC%D0%B8%D1%80_%D0%9A%D0%BE%D0%B7%D1%8C%D0%BC%D0%B8%D1%87" target="_blank"> here ). And as if sheltered from the cold by a paper blanket Murom History and Art Museum.
But no, everything is much more prosaic, the museum building has been under restoration for many years. Once this mansion belonged to the Zworykin family of merchants. Opposite is another “painted” and “perforated” (as the children said) building.
I did not find what it was and what it should become. The spectacle, of course, is not very funny. But as often happens in our lives, the fun begins after him
Moskovskaya street
Water tower, built in 1864 at the expense of the local head A. V. Ermakov, an unprecedented luxury for a provincial town of that time. In addition, it is still operating, only water is now pumped not from the Oka, but from an artesian well.
One of the water supply structures of the late 19th century can be seen on the banks of the Oka near the Nikolo-Naberezhnaya Church (in the photo above in the text) - a pipe and a water pump building
The main attractions of Murom are monasteries and temples. Many visit them to worship shrines, of which there are a lot in the Murom temples, and some, like us, to contemplate the architectural beauties, touch the spirit of antiquity, plunge into history. We managed to get to the Savior Transfiguration Monastery before dark.
It is in this monastery in the Intercession Cathedral that the tomb of St. Elijah of Murom is located. Not quite a tomb, of course, but “a sculptural image (carved of wood) of the holy hero, defender of the Russian land, was recreated from his incorruptible relics resting in the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra. In the silver ark there is a part of the left hand of the saint.
The first mention of the monastery dates back to the 11th century. Like most Orthodox churches in our country, the monastery had a difficult fate, a military unit was located here. But now it is restored and continues to develop. I don’t belong to strongly believers, they say about people like me “believing, but not churched”, I don’t really believe in miraculous healings, etc. not over that shoulder, bow your head lower... "well, etc. Here, we were pleasantly surprised by the smiling priests who greet us as old acquaintances, lovely women ministers, without a shadow of discontent and irritation on their faces... Something like this... When we left from the Intercession Cathedral, it was already completely dark, but then the Christmas tree suddenly lit up with festive lights, the children even screamed in surprise
This is a miracle! The children were delighted!
I will not list all the objects of the monastery. Many tourists and pilgrims may be interested in: on the territory of the monastery a water-blessing chapel with a font "Life-Giving Spring", where you can draw consecrated water and take a bath in the font (warm room), in which there is a stone from the sacred river Jordan, you can do this on Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 7.00 to 19.00, women are supposed to be in shirts.
I also wanted to visit the chapel-ossuary, but it was closed. I can’t explain why I need this, probably to think again that “Remember every brother: we were like you, you will be like us ". (I already have a kind of experience of looking at bones in Kutná Hora in the Czech Republic - impressive). The chapel-ossuary was erected on the site of the monastery cemetery, which was rebuilt as a military parade ground, and it contains the remains of people discovered during the improvement of the restored monastery.
The day was a success: we managed a lot, and the weather did not let us down, it made it possible to enjoy real winter landscapes. Since it was already dark, you can’t really look at the beauty, besides, the wind picked up, and we were tired, the continuation of the walk along Murom was scheduled for tomorrow...
Tomorrow it got a little warmer, the frost came off the trees, the winter fairy tale became less fabulous, but no less interesting. We continued the “monastic” theme…
The monument to Peter and Fevronier of Murom was erected on Krestyanin Square in 2012
The largest influx of tourists and pilgrims in Murom falls on July 8, when the Day of Family, Love and Fidelity is celebrated. This holiday is relatively new, it has been celebrated since 2002 at the initiative of the mayor of Murom. And July 8, of course, is not a random date - the day of memory of Saints Peter and Fevronia of Murom, who are considered the patrons of the family, family values. Their relics are in the Trinity Convent (founded in 1643), where many come with requests for family happiness.
In 1975, a wooden church in honor of St. Sergius of Radonezh from the neighboring Melenkovsky district, which is a monument of wooden architecture of the 18th century, was brought to the territory of the Trinity Monastery
And right next to it (across the road) is the men's monastery - Annunciation Monastery - founded by Ivan the Terrible
Of course, there are a lot of interesting things in Murom, but we completed the main program, so to speak. Yes, and it was already necessary to rush to the New Year's dinner at the parental home. And for a snack, we still have a modern landmark - cable-stayed bridge
The bridge was built in 2009. Although there were attempts to implement this project back in the days of the USSR. In 2013 According to the results of the All-Russian competition, the Murom Bridge was recognized as the most beautiful in Russia.
Crossing the bridge was a very successful final touch in our acquaintance with Murom and, at the same time, gave such a fervent mood for the rest of the journey. Singing along to the New Year's repertoire of radio stations, in the complete absence of hearing and voice of the whole family, staring around,
we successfully reached Saransk and. . . Well, as they say, it's a completely different story : )))
P. S. Many have probably heard that rest is a change in the type of activity. Let's rephrase a little: rest is a change in the surrounding reality : )). It is necessary, it is necessary sometimes to plunge into the calmness and regularity of provincial cities. There is some kind of recharging or something...
