In the Far Far Away Kingdom. Kaliningrad fortification
To be continued. Start here >>> p>
A little more of Koenigsberg as part of a trip to Kaliningrad - Fortified Kaliningrad. I had an excursion “Military Past”, and everything was in a heap and started, as it were, from the end, with a panorama of the capture of the city in 1945 in the Historical and Art Museum, three halls were strictly opened in the museum, I didn’t like it, and also taking into account the unpreparedness of the guide (in general, horror).
I mean, if I could choose, I would choose the excursion "Fortified Kaliningrad", but it's better, of course, to go along this route yourself. But I’m already without historical details (I’ve read about everything, it’s interesting), I’ll just show those places where you can still see and talk with history.
Forts of Kaliningrad are a chain of defensive structures around the city. The second shaft defensive bypass began to be built in 1843.
2 twin towers, 11 bastions, 3 ravelins, defensive barracks and fortified gates were built. Now all this is an example of the fortification of that time, each object was built according to an individual project. Almost all forts are named after the German commanders of that time. Since everything is different and on different days, I’ll just show what I managed to see. Having already arrived and looked at the scheme and route for inspecting fortifications, you can do without an excursion (for the future, since there is still much to see). And here there are even recommendations on the route for two days (suddenly it will come in handy for someone). And since it's all now almost the center of the city, part of the path was on foot from the hotel very close.
The route starts from the Wrangel Tower. I saw her on the first day.
The next section of the defensive wall.
The Don Tower is the twin brother of the Wrangel Tower. It houses the Amber Museum.
Next Lithuanian shaft. The beginning of the Lithuanian rampart is considered the "Rosgarten Gate". It is now a fish restaurant.
We cross the road along the bridge, which is also part of the defensive structures.
Here the question arose to go from above along the shaft or along. She went on horseback. If you go along the rampart wall and naturally there is a moat with water. The moat fills the stream that flows into the Pregol with water to maintain the water level, several dams have been built along the channel (I saw the dams, but there is no photo for some reason).
The Oberteich Bastion covered the road to Krantz.
Now the rampart with a moat is a park area - a great place for walking. And I went for a walk. Some passages, ladders, entrances to the dungeon are hidden in the thickets.
Further on my way, the Grolman bastion, the bastion is connected by an underpass to the Kronprinz barracks on the opposite side of the street.
Kronprinz barracks:
Next is the "King's Gate" - they already had a photo break, it's not far from the gate in terms of mileage, but it's already getting dark on the rampart itself, you need to return to civilization. No sooner said than done: to rest in a hotel.
More Victory Park (the full name is the park of the 55th anniversary of the Victory) is a green zone, one of the parks of the city. A beautiful resting place, the “Ausfalsky” gate adjoins the Victory Park - one of the seven surviving city gates of Kö nigsberg, an Orthodox chapel of St. George the Victorious was built on the platform of the gate.
On the other side there is a small nice little square and another bastion - "Astronomical".
And then there was Fort No. 11 "Dö nhoff". The fort began to be built in 1877 - this is the best preserved fort. It is in this fort that you can see with your own eyes part of the defensive system of Kö nigsberg that existed. The original German gates, iron spiral staircases, barracks corridors, an observation post, and a working lifting mechanism for lifting ammunition have been preserved in the fort.
To the left and right of the entrance, there are inscriptions in German.
One of them reads: "We salute all peoples fighting for world peace. "
We get out into the street and the tour continues through the territory.
And there are also rabbits living on the territory who are tired of posing and the photos turned out just like this
That's all I wanted to show from my journey through the Far Far Away Kingdom.
