We were in Kazan, so we don’t buy excursions, but just go for a walk in the places that we planned at home. But there were many excursions, and one of them was to the Raifa Bogoroditsky Monastery. This is another pearl in the Golden Ring of Kazan. We were in the monastery, took a bus tour. And here is some history and photos from the last trip.
The Raifsky Bogoroditsky Monastery is located just 27 km from Kazan. Before the fire of 1689, the monastery was wooden, the modern look of the monastery took shape in the 17-18th century. The founder of the monastery was the hermit Filaret. He came from a wealthy Moscow merchant family, after the death of his parents he became a hermit, and then a monk. In 1613, Filaret settled on the shore of the Sumsky (Raifsky) lake surrounded by forests. At first, Filaret lived alone in a secluded cell-hut. Only the Cheremis (the ancestors of the modern Mari people), coming to the shore of the forest lake to perform their pagan rites, violated the loneliness of Filaret. It is possible that it was the Cheremis who spread the news of the hermit monk around the neighborhood. So, other monks began to settle near Filaret, and a new monastic settlement arose.
The Church of the Reverend Fathers is the oldest temple of the monastery.
The Cathedral of the Holy Life-Giving Trinity is the main temple of the monastery.
Sofia Church is one of the smallest in Europe (maximum 7 people can be in the church at the same time).
The Cathedral of the Georgian Icon of the Mother of God is a temple that houses the main shrine of Raifa - a list with the miraculous Georgian Icon of the Mother of God.

You can stay overnight at the Pilgrim's House hotel, which belongs to the monastery.
And now a walk around Kazan. So we moored and admired the approaching city.
Kazan is a city located on the left bank of the Volga River, the capital of the Republic of Tatarstan, not only an ancient city with a long history, but also a meeting place between Europe and Asia, Orthodoxy and Islam. There are several legends associated with the name of the city. But the most famous and widespread is that "Kazan" comes from the Tatar "cauldron" - a boiler. According to legend, the city was founded on the spot where water boiled without fire in a cauldron dug into the ground. The symbol of the city was the mythical creature Zilant (Kazan winged serpent), very similar to a dragon.
Thus, more than 1000 years ago, a fortress was built in the Volga Bulgaria, in which all the trade routes of antiquity converged. The age of Kazan was determined during excavations on the territory of the Kremlin, where a coin of 929-930 was found
Modern Kazan - we got to the center by bus. Kazan pedestrian street was donated and made by St. Petersburg architects.

Let's go to see one of the most beautiful buildings in Kazan - the Tatar State Puppet Theater "Ekiyat", which was founded in 1934 and immediately became popular, and in 2012 moved to a new luxurious building. And already approaching the building you find yourself in a fairy tale.
The complex "Tagan Avylym" (translated as "native village") was opened for the millennium of Kazan in 2005. Located in the very center of the city. It is simply impossible to pass by, we go for a walk and taste the famous echpochmak.

Kazan is a beautiful colorful city. And of course, we definitely bring chak-chak from Kazan, it is here in Kazan and in general in Tatarstan that the most delicious chak-chak is. We play until evening.
