Long Son Pagoda is the most revered pagoda in Nha Trang. Initially, it was located a little south of the city, on the top of the Chait-hui hill, but after it was destroyed by a typhoon at the beginning of the 20th century, it had to be restored several times. The last time it was restored was in 1940.
The modern temple was built as a tribute to the numerous Buddhist monks who died in the struggle against the regime of Ngo Dinh Diem (1955-1963). This pagoda continues to operate today. Monks still live here today. It is made in the traditional Chinese-Vietnamese style for these places. It is decorated with numerous tiles and dragons characteristic of this style. In the main building of the temple there is a statue of Buddha made of bronze, 1.6 m high and weighing, according to the monks, 700 kg. At the top of the hill, behind the pagoda, there is a huge White Buddha sitting on a lotus flower, which can be seen from anywhere in the city. The observation deck offers a beautiful view of the city of Nha Trang and the surrounding area. The statue was built in 1963 and is 14 meters high.
The road to the White Buddha consists of 193 steps from the pagoda to Trai Thuy hill. At a height of 44 steps, there is a huge sculpture of a sleeping Buddha.
