Alexandre Yersin Museum
Vietnam, Nha Trang
The Pasteur Institute was founded in Nha Trang in 1895 by Dr. Alexander Yersin (1863–1943). This scientist was probably the most beloved Frenchman of the locals, in contrast to tens of thousands of other colonists.
Dr. Yersin ended up in Vietnam in 1889 after working for Louis Pasteur in Paris. The doctor became famous for discoveries in the field of microbiology and virology, in particular, he identified the microbe that causes bubonic plague. Its traditions are continued today by scientists from the Pasteur Institute in Nha Trang. Also, Dr. Yersin was the first to start planting rubber and cinchona trees in Vietnam.
Dr. Yersin's library and his office today have become a popular museum, among the exhibits of which are laboratory equipment and some personal items.
