Usually all trips to Rome include a visit to the Vatican and its famous sights. It doesn't matter if you're on tour or traveling alone. This small city-state is home to a rich history, legacy and influence. In ancient times, the Vatican was outside of Rome, because there were numerous swamps in this place. By order of the emperor Caligula, the swamps were drained, and a huge hippodrome was built in their place, and then a circus was erected, in which, according to legend, the apostle Peter was executed.→
