Ellis Island is north of Liberty Island, where the famous Statue of Liberty stands. It is known primarily for the fact that from 1892 to 1954 the reception center for immigrants was located here. Today, the island houses the Immigration Museum, which houses old photographs and ship's logs. Americans revere Ellis, because many of their ancestors once started their journey to the United States from here.
