The Museum of Science and Industry is located in the southeast part of the city on the grounds of Jackson Park. It was founded in 1933. The museum is housed in the neoclassical building of the Palace of Fine Arts, built in 1893. The museum is dedicated to the development of American and world industry, among its exhibits are a working coal mine, the first diesel train, a spaceship, and the famous Enigma cipher machine.
