Shenborn hunting castle

Palace of the Counts of Shenborn, Palace of the Counts of Shenborn, Beregvar Castle
Carpathians, Chynadiyovo
In the village of Carpathians (Beregvar) between the cities of Mukachevo and Svalyava, there is a well-preserved Shenborn hunting castle. It arose on the site of an old hunting castle built in the first half of the 18th century. During the ongoing repairs, the architectural and planning appearance of the monument has changed somewhat. The palace is located in the center of the territory of the Karpaty sanatorium with an area of about 50 hectares and is included in its complex as the main building. The architectural appearance and successful placement on the highest part of the relief allow the palace to dominate not only in terms of functionality, but also in terms of architecture. It is successfully connected with other buildings of the complex by a system of park footpaths.

The monument is a complex architectural volume, conditionally consisting of the front part, completed by the dominant clock tower (south wing), the economic part (north wing) and the chapel that unites them. Both parts of the palace are two-story, the clock tower is four-story. The eastern part has a basement, for the construction of which stone from the nearby quarries was used.
A certain symbolism fits into the design of the neo-Renaissance castle. In Europe, in particular in Germany, there are castles in which the number of towers corresponds to the number of days in a year. In the project of the former castle of Count Shenborn, the astronomical year is taken as the basis. Here the number of windows - 365 - corresponds to the number of days in a year; 52 rooms correspond to the number of weeks, and 12 entrances to the number of months. The castle was built of brick and covered with figured tiles. In architectural terms, the castle is similar in type to French Renaissance castles from the time of the famous "musketeers".

The pretentiousness of towers and Renaissance pediments, the different scales of roofs and their structures - all this contributes to the fact that the stone mass loses its weight, as if growing out of its natural pedestal, the mountainside.
Therefore, the castle is not a stranger in its natural environment. The architect, apparently, did not want to oppose his creation to nature, but made it proportionate to it and to man. Every detail of the castle - either a chimney or a tower - not only performs its utilitarian functions, but is also a decoration of the building. The doors of the entrances and the windows above them are decorated with stained-glass windows on biblical themes. 4 towers of different shapes rise above the building itself, on each of which there is a tin flag with the date of the construction of the castle carved on it - 1890.

On the territory of the castle there is an artificial lake, the external outlines of which originally followed the contour of Austria-Hungary.
The castle is located in the center of the miraculous so-called. English park, which occupies 19 hectares. The place for the construction of the castle was chosen so well that the surrounding landscape did not need to be changed during the construction of the castle park. The park contains decorative trees not only from Subcarpathian Rus, but also from many countries of the world. Here you can see catalpa, Japanese cherry-sakura, Weymouth pine, European modrina, vinegar tree and other exotic trees and shrubs next to ash and oak.

The layout of the park is very well done, the arrangement of trees is harmonious, each group of trees against the background of the neighboring ones demonstrates its beauty even more strongly and more clearly emphasizes the charms of the neighboring group.

Since 1946, the sanatorium "Karpaty" began its work on the territory of the castle complex.

The place is fabulous! Exquisite palace surrounded by a wonderful landscape park. Pointed turrets add lightness and weightlessness to the building, and the calendar symbolism inherent in the architecture of that time manifested itself in 365 windows, 52 chimneys, 12 entrances. The exterior decoration of the palace is well preserved, which cannot be said about the interior. I advise you not to go inside at all, there is a typical scoop in its prime. But we were convinced that in a single room something remained of the former grandeur of the interiors.

All around the castle is occupied by a botanical garden. We got on the tour in winter, so we could only admire the castle itself, and saw the flowering gardens only in the photo. But even in winter, the castle seemed very beautiful to us. The guide leads the tour so excitingly that the time flies by unnoticed. And there is also a spring of "Youth" near Schö nborn's castle, so do not forget to stock up on containers to take wonderful water with you. Now the castle is used as a sanatorium, so you can take a ticket here and enjoy the beauty for more than one day.

Beautiful landscape. The castle conquered with its architecture. The Soviet legacy ruined the building inside, but it didn't spoil the overall mood. Air can be eaten with a spoon! If you came on a tour, I advise you not to go into the building so as not to spoil the impression. Paid entrance. .

The castle made me feel uncomfortable. Great architecture. A picturesque well-groomed park, a stream of youth and beauty, the history of the owner of the castle - everything is overshadowed by his sad state. Needs a quality restoration. It is terrible that the castle of unique beauty is the sleeping building of the existing sanatorium. Inside reigns sovdepovskaja neglect and dirt.

This palace was built by Count Erwin Friedrich Schö nborn-Buchheim in 1890-1895. A magnificent arboretum (now the Carpathian Sanatorium Park) with a decorative lake in the center was laid out around the palace. Rare tree species have been planted - boxwood, catalpa, Weymouth pine, Canadian spruce, Japanese cherry (sakura), pink beech, Italian alumina; shrubs - milkweed, hydrangea, etc. The hunting castle itself is built in a neo-romantic style that combines Romanesque and Gothic motifs. The originality of the palace is that it has 365 windows (number of days per year), 52 chimneys and 12 entrances (as in the month).
