Ruins on Mount Perchem

Mount Perchem
Crimea, Sudak
Perchem (translated as a mane) is one of the highest mountains in the vicinity of Sudak. It stretches in the west as a whole ridge, having not one, but several peaks, and it is difficult to say with complete certainty which of them reaches 576 m above sea level.

But for the historian, Perchem is perhaps the most interesting of all Sudak peaks. Traces of human activity of different eras are found everywhere here. So, Pallas at the end of the 18th century saw quarries still operating here; from the extracted dense sandstone, millstones and other products were made. A whole warehouse of medieval millstones was lost on the slopes of the mountain, in almost impenetrable forest thickets. Nowadays, archaeological research is carried out here in various places. If you wander around the mountain, you can see many ruins left from ancient buildings. The natural continuation of Perchem in this regard are the Sandyk and Sykht-Lar mountains, stretching towards the New World and the village of Veseloe.
Relatively better than others, the monastery under the peak of Perchem has been preserved. This place is sometimes called "Monastyrka". Its total area reaches 215 square meters. meters.

The monastic complex consisted of a temple, an internal utility courtyard and living quarters - a cell, which at the same time served as a refectory. Before entering the temple, archaeologists discovered several burials. Established in the 8th century, the monastery was abandoned in the 15th century due to the Turkish invasion, and was slowly destroyed over the following centuries. The remains of it were securely covered with earth. After the completion of the excavations, the monument was not mothballed and is now rapidly deteriorating.

We knew for a long time that there are ruins on the mountain. But they found them only the third time. From the side of Sudak, it will be much easier to do this than from the side of the New World. However, there isn't much to see there.
