Simferopol reservoir
Simferopol reservoir
Crimea, Simferopol
The Simferopol reservoir is an island-block of Permian limestones. Monument of nature (1964). The Simferopol rocky boulder is one of the most significant in the foothills; it was first described by scientists in 1901. This gray limestone contains a fossil Paleozoic rhizopod fauna that existed more than 230 million years ago. After filling the Salgir river valley with water from the Simferopol reservoir in 1955, the Perm block formed an island 40 x 80 meters in size. This natural monument is a witness to the complex geological history of the peninsula. The Perm block forms an island only when the reservoir is completely filled, the bowl of which in this case holds 34 million cubic meters of water, and the depth reaches 34 meters.
