Mountain "CAT" - the joy of the tourist and the fun of the climber.

Like many mountains in the Crimea, Mount "Koshka" has several historical names at once: the name "Baka" from the Turkic - Toad is mentioned; the ancient Greeks called - "Lemena" - the Bay, claims to be correct, the name "Kush-Kaya" - Falcon Mountain.

But still, it is more correct to call it: "Kosh-Kaya", which in the Turkic language means: "Kosh" - a pair, and "Kaya" - a rock, that is, "Steam Rock".

So it was many millions of years ago, when from the majestic plateau "Ai-Petri" (the name that has come down to us, translated from Greek - St. Peter) by tectonic splits its huge "pieces" departed (if these blocks of history can be called pieces) settled down to the sea and formed those majestic rocks that Crimea is now proud of, and we, its modest inhabitants, boast.
So, for sure, the “Pair Rock” formed as a result of the great fault, apparently, two obvious ridges (now one can only guess about this from the name that has come down to us), but it is obvious that it was she who became the progenitor of a whole chaos of beautiful rocks: the remaining part of the mountain "Kosh-Kaya", the rock "Diva" and the rock "Monk", which now together form a single ensemble.

The fact that our Two-humped Mountain gave rise to these Rocks can be argued at least, because already in the memory of our time, as a result of a series of strongest storms, the Monk Rock has changed a lot, squinted towards the sea and has already become completely different from that the majestic Monk, whom our ancestors already remembered.

But back to our Cat.
As a result of the transformations of the Dvugorba mountain itself and the habit of the Russian-speaking population to call everything convenient for themselves, the romantic name of the Mountain “Koshka”, familiar to all of us, was born. After all, in fact, if you look at this "pebble" from the direction of Alupka (directly from our beach) in general, from its eastern side. Then the outlines of a lying cat with a withers rearing on its neck, a protruding ear and a pretty muzzle lying in the sea are clearly visible.

In our time, Mount "Koshka" is closely intertwined with the settlement itself, the village of Simeiz, lying at its foot. This can be said to be the visiting card of Simeiz himself.

The height of Mount "Cat" is 254 meters (at the highest point - the cat's ear). Since 1947, it has been a complex natural monument, and since 1984, it has been awarded the “high” title of an object of State significance (although it probably does not know about it).
Today it is a protected area, but you can walk along the ecological path, which starts from the Yalta-Sevastopol highway and goes along the "Kitten" hump for a distance of about 1.8 km.

The trail passes among small rocks, karst potholes and small stone chaos.

A karst mine with a length of 80 m goes into the depths (not a cave, but curious).

From the vegetation, of course, the Crimean pine, strawberry tree, pistachios, a lot of juniper are found, on the slopes there are varieties of Lebanese cedar.

This is a simple walk that does not require special skills and training.

But the so-called "muzzle of a kitten" is a favorite place of pilgrimage for climbers. The thing is that almost all the Crimean mountains can be quite gentle and accessible from any side, except for the one that looks at the sea.
This is an understandable fact of the action of erosion of sea winds and breezes (after all, all the Crimean mountains are made of limestone, and it is known to be a pliable material).

Because standing in front of the Cat from the sea you will see a steep plumb line of impressive height. This is where beginner climbers go to school, and seasoned climbers warm up before the season. By the way, on the ascent there are a couple of sections with a "negative slope" and this is the most delicious for a good climber.
