Sinop stairs
Sinop stairs in Sevastopol
Crimea, Sevastopol
To create the shortest connections on a complex rugged urban terrain, dozens of stairs of various shapes and sizes were built in Sevastopol. The Sinop Staircase, created in the middle of the 19th century and reconstructed in the 1950s by V. Artyukhov and other architects, descends in a cascade of stepped marches from Lenin Square to Nakhimov Avenue. Tauride Descent leads from the same Central Hill. Wide and narrow, steep and sloping, straight and winding, elegant and simple - they have become an integral part of the picturesque urban landscapes.
