Echki-Dag mountain range

Echkidag Mountains, Goat Mountain
Crimea, Koktebel
Echki-Dag, or Echkidag, in the Turkic languages means "goat mountain". This is the name of the ridge located in the eastern part of the Crimean Mountains near the Black Sea coast between the cities of Sudak and Feodosia. The seaside strip of land near Echki-Dag is attributed by geographers to the southeastern coast of Crimea - the outskirts of the landscape region of the Southern coast of Crimea.

Echki-Dag, a mountain range of the Main Ridge (688 m above sea level), is located between Solnechnaya Dolina and Shchebetovka. It has three peaks. The northern, trihedral rocky peak is called Kush-Kaya. To the east of it stretches a wooded middle peak, Echki-Dag, whose name has spread to the entire massif. The third, Chal-Kaya, is located to the south, through a deep saddle. The rocks of the massif are mainly composed of thick reef limestones. As a result of tectonic movements, their layers turned out to be curved into a fold, a syncline. Kush-Kaya and Chal-Kaya are raised edges, “wings” of this fold.
One of the old guidebooks mentions the bottomless failure of the "Ear of the Earth" on Echki-Dag. After a long search, speleologists finally found it: it is a vertical, very narrow and winding passage 126 m deep; it can only be penetrated with the help of special equipment. On the cliffs of Chal-Kai, the Theodosians also discovered a karst gap and a deep grotto. And it may very well be that the stone chaos of this mountain holds more than one such surprise.
The Echki-Dag ridge is located between the Kozskaya and Otuzskaya valleys. It is a watershed for many gullies and ravines that open to these valleys or directly to the Black Sea. The northern slope of the ridge is cut by tributaries of the Koz-Yol gully. The eastern slope is deeply eroded by temporary streams flowing down to the sea along a gully or even a dry valley, which is called Chalkinskaya, and the western slope is dissected by tributaries of the Kayan-Arda gully, which opens to the Kozskaya valley. The bare seaside slope of the ridge was cut by numerous erosion depressions. The most significant of them are the beam or dry valley of Delyametskaya, the ravines of Krutoy, Sukhoi and Vetvisty. Mountains, plains and the sea, forests, steppes and semi-deserts converge here. Interesting natural, historical, archaeological, scientific, cultural and economic objects are concentrated on the ridge and in its immediate vicinity, which can be found during hiking.
Echki-Dag is gaining well-deserved popularity. Fantastic landscapes opening from its slopes and magnificent views of the protected Kara-Dag, the opportunity to swim in crystal clear water and relax on a good wide beach away from the hustle and bustle of settlements, climb mountain peaks and feel the real beauty of wild nature - all this attracts Echki-Dag tourists, local historians, vacationers and local residents.
