Mount Klementieva
Mount Uzun-Syrt
Crimea, Koktebel
Mount Klementieva is a huge eight-kilometer horseshoe curved to the north with a surprisingly flat top. Inside this horseshoe lies a deep depression Barykol, where rising air currents constantly arise, washing the top of the mountain. This has long attracted glider pilots from all over the country.
Mount Klementieva is the cradle of Soviet gliding. The future general designers O. K. Antonov, A. S. Yakovlev, S. V. Ilyushin, and the creator of spaceships, Academician S. P. Korolev, began their journey here. On the top of the mountain in 1973, a memorial obelisk with a real glider was installed - in honor of the 50th anniversary of the first glider competitions.
