Lake Donuzlav
Donuzlav bay
Crimea, Yevpatoria
Monument of nature (1947), reserve (1980). Donuzlav, elongated in the northeast direction, has a large area and is the deepest lake in Crimea. By its origin, Donuzlav is a sea bay, separated from the sea by a 9-kilometer sandy barrage 200-600 meters wide. The lake is salty. In the upper reaches, it narrows and becomes so shallow that it resembles a river; here its waters are considerably desalinated by spring water. Therefore, in the upper reaches of the Donuzlav, wetland vegetation, unusual for the flat Crimea, develops.
