Construction barrel of death
Balaklava barrel of death
Crimea, Balaklava
The barrel of death is a structure made of sheet armor hanging over a cliff, loopholes are cut in the walls and floor. In the side walls (apparently already much later than the construction) rectangular holes were cut to the full height. Initially, there were two such "barrels" - they were intended for observing the enemy and firing at him. According to popular rumor, the red commissars were shot in this barrel and thrown down, for which it got its sinister name. This legend is confirmed by traces of bullets on the inner surface of the barrel, which are located at the level of a person's head.
