Cosmo-Damianovsky Monastery
Kosmodamianovsky Monastery
Crimea, Alushta
It was founded in 1856 in the mountains according to the plan of St. Innocent (Borisov; † 1857), Archbishop of Cherson-Tauride, with a long-revered spring, on which many healings took place. According to one of the legends, he was forced out of the earth by the prayers of the holy unmercenary doctors Cosmas and Damian, who had been in exile in the Crimea.
In 1898 the monastery was transformed into a women's one. At the turn of the 1920-1930s. the monastery was closed: the Office of the Crimean State Reserve was located here. During the Great Patriotic War, wooden monastery buildings were burned. Only the stone chapel at the Holy Spring survived. In 1994, the revival of the monastery began.
