The Valley of Ghosts is a natural monument at the foot of
Mt. Demerdzhi.
Before talking about legends and stories, we need to say a few words about Demerdzhi herself. The mountain, or rather, its slopes, is a unique heap of rocks, which are commonly called blocky chaos. The shape and size of the boulders are so bizarre that you can guess the figures and portraits created by nature in them. Giving long shadows, these figures change their outlines, and you can see more and more new images in them if you wish. That is why the valley is called the Valley of Ghosts.
Here you can recognize a frog, a warrior's head, and even Yeltsin's portrait. The most famous legend tells of a blacksmith who lived on the mountain. He forged weapons here, and was so aggressive and unkind that in his spare time he terrorized the village located in the valley. Once a blacksmith captured a girl from this village. The girl tried to run away, but tripped on a stone, fell and died. The god of the mountain got angry, and huge boulders fell off the mountain, destroying the forge, the blacksmith, and the village. These boulders still lie in the valley, and when you imagine how they rolled down the slopes, you just get goosebumps.
But the mountain remembers not only the fairy-tale blacksmith and his captive. There were events that were closer to us and no less interesting. A lot of warm feelings will be evoked by our compatriots by visiting the trail, on which scenes from the film “Prisoner of the Caucasus” were filmed. It is known that part of the film was shot in the Caucasus, and part - in the Crimea, in the Valley of Ghosts. "Nut Nikulin" - this is one of the famous trees of the Crimea, which has a proper name. This is where the scene of the fall from the tree was filmed. The branch was filed accordingly, the place of fall was prepared ... But the branch broke in a completely different place, and during the fall, Yuri Vladimirovich broke his arm. I had to take a big break while working on the film.
And what is the opportunity to take a picture on the stone, on which Natalya Varley danced under "Somewhere in the world ..."?! Interestingly, this stone is not so small. The block has the shape of a regular parallelepiped, and its height is about two meters. But a ladder is prudently attached to the stone.
And if you have one and a half to two hours of time, then do not be lazy and go along the narrow path to the platform at the top of the mountain. From here a magnificent view opens up: mountains, sunbeams cutting through the clouds, a city lying in a valley, and a sparkling sea. Just for the sake of a few pictures it is worth climbing here.
