Tereshchenko's estate in Chervonoye
Tereshchenko Castle in Chervonoye, Tereshchenko Estate
Ukraine, Zhytomyr
Chervonoe is a small village in the Andrushevsky district of the Zhytomyr region, located approximately in the middle between Andrushevka and Berdichev. Until the 18th century, like the entire district, Chervonoe belonged to the Tishkevich family. Subsequently, it passed to the magnates Grokholsky. Somewhere in the first half of the 19th century, Adolf Groholsky built here a large three-story, quadrangular in plan, Neo-Gothic palace designed by an unknown architect. Shortly after the death of Adolf Grokholsky, his widow sold Chervonoe (together with the palace and the local sugar factory) to Nikolai Tereshchenko. As you know, Tereshchenko were not only famous sugar industrialists, but also well-known patrons who knew art well and supported it in every possible way. Tereshchenko significantly rebuilt the palace in Chervonoye.
An architectural monument of the 19th century. Approximately until the end of the 20th century, a vocational school was located here. After the vocational school moved to a new building, the palace quickly fell into disrepair and turned into ruins. It was handed over to the Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate and the convent of the Holy Nativity of Christ was founded here. However, the new owners are frankly in no hurry to revive this beautiful building. Part of the first floor is equipped with plastic windows, the remaining 90% of the area of the building is in a dilapidated state.
