Rock Chatsky's Head
Rock of Chatsky, Skele Head of Chatsky
Ukraine, Zhytomyr
The head of Chatsky is a granite rock of a bizarre shape above the river. The black grouse in Zhytomyr, shaped like a human head, is a geological monument of national importance. The head of Chatsky was formed as a result of the weathering of granite rocks over many hundreds of years. Chatsky Rock is clearly visible from the observation deck on the dam of the reservoir and from the hill near the Monument of Glory, it is one of the symbols of Zhytomyr. There are two versions of this name, but most researchers of local toponymy are inclined to believe that the rock is named after Tadeusz Chatsky (1765-1813), a specific historical figure who lived in Volyn and made a significant contribution to the development of education in the Zhytomyr region.
