Museum of Lesya Ukrainka
Museum of Lesia Ukrainka
Ukraine, Zhytomyr
The Literary and Memorial Museum of Lesya Ukrainka - Larisa Petrovna Kosach - is located in the historical center of Novograd-Volynsky, in the house in which the future poetess was born in February 1871. A brick one-story 8-room house, in the estate of a local tradesman, was rented by the family of Justice of the Peace Peter Kosach from 1870 to 1873. In 1970, on the eve of the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the birth of the poetess, the museum of Lesya Ukrainka was opened here, which now contains 2000 items of the main fund.
The life of the Kosach family in Novograd-Volynsky is recreated in five rooms of the museum: documents and photographs, paintings and books, furniture and tapestries of that period. The decor of the children's room was restored with Larisa's personal belongings - a Ukrainian suit, a school pencil case, a cup she brought from Italy. The wooden gallery connects the house where the Kosachs lived with the former master's house, where an exposition dedicated to the relics of the Kosach family and their environment is deployed in a separate room. A bust of Lesya Ukrainka on a granite pedestal is installed in the courtyard.
